I have had an Eko Core for about 2.5 years and I use it in the air medical service. It works great to enhance your listening capabilities and provide better patient care. I have a lot of intubated patients and patients I have to listen to in the back of an ambulance, being able to get good respiratory sounds is critical for my practice. We've all been there, you're listening to a patient's lung sounds and you're trying to decide if the sounds are diminished or you're having trouble hearing due to the environment or shallow breathing from your patient; now you don't have to wonder. I listen to cardiac sounds much less but on the occasion that I do, the Core is helpful there as well.
What I think could be better is the center button on the Core should be user-programable from within the app. Currently, the button starts/stops recording in the app. I should be able to decide what I want that button to do, which takes me to the other issue I have with the Core; in order to change the software focus of the sounds I'm listening to (wide/cardiac/respiratory) I have to open the app and select it there. This was a bit shortsighted on the part of the engineers, thinking that everyone using this device would have or would want to pull out their phone during every exam. A lot of EMS workers are starting to adopt this device and I have heard the same complaint from all of the ones I have spoken to; I don't want to pull out my phone on scene, open the app, dig into the menu, and change the setting. It would be better if I could press the button on the Core to go through the modes without opening the phone. This is not a deal-breaker, but something to consider with future upgrades in software/firmware. I just leave mine in respiratory mode because that's mostly what I need.
The power button is notorious amongst users for turning itself on when it is in your pocket, around your neck, in a bag, etcetera. This tends to drain your battery without you realizing it. To combat this, I created a power blocker device that dozens of users have raved about since getting their hands on it: https://bit.ly/3qbyRQS
