I had 3 selection criteria for front panniers for a recent trek;
1) strong enough to withstand the rigours of long distances on dirt
2) waterproof
3) secured mounting system
Whilst these panniers appeared to suitable hanging on the shop wall I think my choice was made based on Ortlieb’s reputation.
I couldn’t have been happier. The weather through everything at me and the trail was rougher than expected. Yet after 2 weeks not a drop of water entered.
Fully loaded on rough terrain places considerable stress on the mounting brackets and particularly the fabric around where they attach. Again, 2 weeks of this punishment and no sign of damage.
The only difference between the gravel and slightly cheaper sport version is the gravel version has a double clip on the bottom which holds more securely on rough terrain, it proved the right decision.
I paired these with the larger Ortlieb back roller classic on the rear and the whole setup worked like a dream.
Always nice when a product works as well as the marketing hype 😁
