First thing I'll talk about are the pros and cons of tungsten versus lead tape. Of course the biggest one is any kind of health risk that lead tape might represent. My guess is that it's fairly minimal, but in my mind when there's tungsten tape available it makes more sense. It is a little bit more expensive, but the difference is pretty negligible especially when you get a nice big roll like this one.
If you don't use edge guard tape, lead tape may offer a little bit more of a finished look, as it is little thicker, and does not show any blemishes from what you put it over.
Tungsten tape, and particularly this kind, is a little bit more like electric tape in that if there are blemishes under what you're putting it on they will show through a bit.
I tried to capture this in the first picture. My paddle edge has lots of old gummy residue on it from previous edge guards, and you can see it a little bit when you apply tungsten tape. However, as you can see in the second picture, when you put edge guard tape over it it is much less evident than lead tape, since the lead tape is much thicker.
Also, if you wanted to decrease the toxicity of the lead tape, that's pretty much of a non-issue if you do put edge guard over it. Even in that case, as I say, tungsten tape looks better to me.
When it comes to this particular product, my feeling is that it's very good. You can cut it off at an exact weight, as it has a little scale on the bag itself, so you don't even need to use a ruler. There are lots of YouTube videos that talk about the different benefits of putting the tape on different parts of your paddle. I tend to go for a little more power by putting mine at 3:00 9:00 and high noon. This tape sticks perfectly well, and because it is thin you can even round off the edges or do other things as it's easy to cut precisely. The weight seems about right, and all in all I'm very happy with this product!
