Organic Hair Dye Variant 1 / Caramel Shadow 100g Reviews

5 Rating 241 Reviews
This is the second colour I've tried from Desert Shadow. The first was Honey shadow & even though I have light brown hair with plenty of gold highlights from the sun - there wasn't any colour pay off at all. My scalp & hair felt amazing though, so I was keen to give it another go. Caramel shadow puts a fair bit of Auburn through my hair (I think because it is light to start with & super fine) but it looks lovely! Definitely caramel/cinnamon hues in the daylight & me and my curls love it!!

I had dark roots with some greys and highlighted ends. I stopped colouring my hair 3 months ago just to be in a safe side because I knew that I will switch to henna. After doing a lot if research and reading hundreds of reviews I've decided to go with Flora and Faunas henna. I used chamomile tea to mix the powder and it smelled beautifully of fresh cut grass. I found that I needed way more water than stated in the instructions as the paste was getting dense pretty quickly. The application was super easy and not messe aylt all. Just like any hair dye. I kept the colour for about 3.5 hours and rinsed. I felt straight away that my hair was softer. The colour was simply breathtaking; deep brown cooper on the roots and very vibrant light cooper on the ends. After 3 days my hair has a very strong smell of hay but I love it because it reminds me of home :-) The other thing that I find incredible is that one box is more than enough to colour my very dense shoulder blades length hair. And yes, the grays are completely covered.

I did this colour over Copper shadow, which I had used for a couple of months, and the result is Chestnut with different highlights throughout. I really like it. I've been using Desert Shadow for about four months and my hair feels stronger and softer than when I was using chemical dyes. The time and process of dying it doesn't bother me, I just pick a night when I'm in and go about my business with a shower cap over it!

I had been using henna for a year with no issues. The last time I used it I changed to chestnut for a little more red. It turned out a disaster, it literally went black and no amount of washing softened the tone. It wasn't a shiny gorgeous black mind you, it was dull dead black. In desperation I went to a hairdresser and $600 dollars later and extreme damage from trying to bleach it out (turned blue) they threw up their hands and said 'you just have to grown it out'. When you have greys that isn't that easy so every couple of weeks I have to have a demi on the roots. My hair is lifeless even after nearly a year and lots of hair cuts and I have spent a fortune on a colour correction until it all grows out. I honestly don't know what happened, all I can think of is the mix had too much indigo in it. Do what they say, patch test a small amount before doing your whole head to avoid heartache and be warned that you really are stuck with henna for life or a painful and expensive grow out.

Turned out a really vibrant colour but it does get a bit messy when putting the colour on. Although the fact that it is organic with no nasty chemicals makes up for it. Has a bit of a smell to it too but I didnt mind it that much really!

I'm in my early sixties and have been colouring my hair for the past 25 years. For health reasons I have always used products with less of a chemical load than standard products. For many years I used these at home, with good results. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to try a completely natural product, and came across the Desert Shadow range. Initially, it didn't cover my grey hair completely, but since using the pre-colour Wash Bar for stubborn grey hair, it has. The colour lasts as long as any semi-permanent product I have used before. After 2-3 weeks I begin to see signs of grey re-growth. I only ever colour the roots, so, even though my hair is shoulder length, I can easily get 2 colourings out of the one packet. Once you get used to mixing up the powders, it doesn’t take much time at all. I make up step 1 the night before (summer or winter). The product does need to stay on for a long time which may not suit everybody, but, as I’m working from home, this is not so much of an issue for me. I think the end result is worth it. I have naturally dark brown hair. The Honey Shadow is such a beautifully warm and soft colour that I think really suits me as I get older. I plan to keep using it for the foreseeable future.

If you have blonde hair already, this will be quite vibrant initially (I assume it will fade to a softer colour, I've only just dyed my hair). It looks so natural even at its most vibrant, I know many lucky people with natural ginger hair this shade. I have mid length hair and only used half the packet as well, so great value

I was skeptical that this would work for me because my greys are so thick and robust! Wow, I was shocked by how beautifully it matched to my hair colour and nested my greys as gentle highlights in my hair. I am in love and will be using this for a very long time.
