“I’m a non-professional day trader and used TradeStation before switching to SC for about 10 years. I’m not a programmer.
The bad news first; there is a steep learning curve that isn't quickly overcome in a weekend. Settle in for some initial frustration. That being said there are lots of videos and documentation available. Still, there are times when I wonder why some procedural paths don’t seem logical: why is this control here and not there?
The good news is if you Google "Sierra chart, (your question)" it will take you to the correct documentation and other resources instantly. There is also excellent help available from SC on their forum. After accepting the learning curve, you can start revaling in SC's awesome engineering and power.
#1 - Sierra Chart is super light on computer resources and very stable. I have 20 dissimilar charts open at once and a multitude of studies on each and am not running SC on a new wizard computer. It all works effortlessly without any drags.
#2 - You can overlay studies (indicators) from different periodicities - a 5-minute study onto a 5 sec. chart or you can overlay a study from a point-and-figure chart onto a 5-minute chart. You can do just about anything you can imagine without crashing. You can also adjust every visual aspect of everything - super customizable to the extreme.”
“Sierra Chart data holds up well, even in a volatile market. I’ve used a couple of different charting programs in the past, but they all failed me eventually when the markets turned volatile.”
