“These have worked wonders for me. I have about 14 that I put up every Feb through late June to get rid of all of the grackles that I have. Smaller birds access their food without incident and in peace! Often I don’t use the bottoms BUT when I do I have found that using dual hook tension springs works great to attach the bottoms to the cages (purchased from Amazon) and provide very easy on and off as needed.
Thank you Birds Choice for offering this solution to a problem that I fought for years. No more raids by squirrels and grackles!”
Hi Jann,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review! We’re thrilled to hear how well these have worked for you—and 14 of them no less! 😊
It’s great to know the smaller birds can feed peacefully while the grackles (and squirrels!) are kept at bay. We also really appreciate you sharing your tip about using dual hook tension springs for the bottoms—clever and helpful for other customers looking for flexibility.
Hearing that this solution finally put an end to a problem you battled for years truly means a lot to us. Thanks again for choosing Birds Choice and for being part of our bird-loving community! 🐦

“Starlings don’t even try anymore! We hung this cage over our bluebird feeder and it works perfectly.
We left the bottom off, just hung the feeder and cage together.”
“It works for all lengths of feeders that are up to 13". The birds go in and out okay. We don't have the feeder that screws on, but we used paper clips to make the bottom stay on.”
“We were hoping for something a little bit easier to put together. The box came crushed and the cage was not cushioned or protected although it wasn't damaged. The instructions don't tell you how to fasten the bottom to the top or viseversa. I assume we will have to use wire ties to connect it together and then use some wire to hang it with. We got this to place a wireless camera birdhouse in. It's still sitting in a corner in the breakfast room awaiting me getting time to figure out how to put it all together. Maybe others will have better luck.”
“Helps with the big birds but my feeder inside the cage will spill when tilted so…..I need better feeder I suppose. I bought two after seeing the woodpeckers thwarted. I would reccomend adding a clip for the top and bottom as I did to attach the bottom to the feeder. The cage would slide back and forth befor I added zip ties as shown”
