“I've wanted a large flat desktop for a while now and finally got one. I figured I might as well get a nice one that will do stand up as well and I'm happy to report that this is stable at it's maximum height. I ended up screwing a surge protector and ethernet hub to the underside of the desk so I only have 2 wires (1 power and 1 data) running up from the ground. The cable management works very well and everything is clean. I'm quite happy with this solution.”
“We ordered this desk for a faculty member rather than a desktop version. It was rather easy to assemble and looks great...and it was delivered well in advance of the estimated date, so we are very pleased and would order this desk again.”
“After ordering I had some questions and customer service was VERY helpful. Nice to deal with midwest folks, I think. Assembly was very straight forward, though I went slow to enjoy the process. Parts are of excellent quality. The Youtube video helped a lot. Now I have it loaded up with at least 100 pounds plus of computer and ham radio gear. I am very pleased with its stability. This desk is so well constructed that it falls in the category of almost wanting another one! Lots of cables hanging off the back of this desk, and I have installed some strain relief tie-wraps on some of them. I think this configuration for me is a winner. Being able to stand up while I work the computer or chat on the radio is going to work out great for me. Thanks to BTOD for making such an excellent desk.”
“Just assembled my desk (30" x 72" laminate cherry finish) and have been using it for about 3 days. I researched these extensively and settled on this brand because of the detailed videos on btod focusing on desk stability and quality of components.
Reasons for 4 stars instead of 5. I am a 6' and 2"-3" guy (been a while since I measured how tall I am!) and this desk is about 1" too short for me at the tallest setting of 47". And I have the caster wheels which probably add an inch over the base option of flat levelers. I wear business shoes with a heel. I ordered a gel standing mat and there is no way I can use it because that just boosts me up another inch. For me, the perfect height would be where I can rest my forearms at 90 degrees (horizontal straight out) on the desktop for typing or using the mouse. As it is, my shoulders have to slump down just a bit putting some strain on my shoulders/neck/upper back. The whole Idea was to get this to improve my posture. This can be corrected by putting one of those zipper portfolio binders that holds a legal pad under each forearm, which is what I am doing to get them level. Takes up room on the desk but oh well. Still, no way I can do a standing mat.
Two other small complaints. One is the controller, which as others have noted you need to hold down on the button even for a preset to have it go all the way up/down. This will get old over the next 10 years I expect to use the desk. BTOD really needs to upgrade to 1-touch memory positions.
Second complaint is the assembly instructions. The black and white drawings are not the clearest. Suggestion is to have a color photograph showing and labeling all of the components on the underside of the desk when fully assembled, so people can compare what they are doing to what it should look like. I know that will cost another 15 cents per desk in supplies, but it will really boost your customer satisfaction and cut down on calls for assistance. The video is super helpful, especially in the early steps with the motor, but don't count on it alone because he is not using all of the parts needed (like washers - doh!) which *are* shown in the printed instructions. Also, some of the holes just don't match up. I had no clue where to screw in the memory switch because none of the holes matched up, so I just used 1 pre-drilled hole and drilled 1 more. Also, with the amount of pressure you put on pressing the switch it tends to move if you only put in 2 screws to mount it, so I had to put in 2 more screws.
I know I mostly pointed out negatives in this review, but I am still glad I went with this desk. It is VERY sturdy and I believe will last a long time. Definitely get the wheels so it is easier for you to re position, and think twice about getting this if you are taller than 6' 2".”
“The desk has a terrific price and works very well. But the shipping/packaging for the desktop has always been problematic. for every two desks we order, one will arrive with damage and require a replacement. Perhaps looking at your packing for the desktop would improve fewer damaged desktops.”
