This is a fun activity in Holloway, London

Co-hosted by brut tea & Meiro Ceramics

Matcha Tasting and Matcha Making, hosted by brut tea (50 mins)
This part of the workshop is led by brut tea, a London-based independent tea brand specialising in modern Asian tea culture.
You’ll be guided through a mini matcha tasting, where you’ll try and compare different matchas while our facilitator shares the story, origin, and what makes matcha so distinctive from other teas. You’ll then learn how to prepare matcha properly at home, from whisking technique to water ratios, before making your own oat matcha latte to enjoy!

Matcha Bowl Making, hosted by Meiro Ceramics (60 mins)
Then, you’ll get creative with clay — shaping, designing and glazing your own chawan (matcha bowl). Expert instructors guide you through each step of hand-building your bowl. Working with premium clay and professional tools, you'll learn to shape, smooth, and personalise your piece with hand-painted designs. The workshop takes place in our serene studio space, where everything has been carefully prepared for your creative journey.

The Finishing Touch
Your bowl will be professionally glazed and fired after the workshop, ensuring it's both food-safe and beautiful. In three weeks, you'll collect your finished piece – a meaningful creation that bridges centuries of tradition with your personal artistic expression.

The class was very informative about matcha and the history which was very interesting to learn about. Also learning how to whisk matcha and we got to taste different types of matcha. The pottery class was also fun and we got to paint them too! The teachers were both very friendly and were open. Overall, I enjoyed the class a lot and can’t wait to use the bowl I made!

I booked this workshop as a birthday treat, and it turned out to be a really lovely, meditative experience. The studio has cozy lo-fi vibes, making it a great social detox from our busy lives - a chance to create something artsy with your hands and catch up with friends you haven't seen in a while. The matcha bowl turned out super cute, and I highly recommend this workshop to anyone new to pottery making!

The bowl pottery was really interesting and the teacher is patient on going through step by step. However, I think the matcha tasting experience can be done better with more storytelling on matcha history and have a taste of various different types of matcha.
