Whooping Cranes were seen on the very first day. Guides are very knowledgeable! Picnics are great. Just a fun time with my fellow birders!

I enjoyed the trip, leaders and outings. The chosen picnic sites were delightful and sightings of the cranes, way more than we anticipated. I will mention that we thought we were birding for 5 days when in reality it was only 3. I would suggest an added day to comfortably include the driving as always arriving late 8:00 to 08:30 for dinner and then do the checklist.

I found the Saskatchewan Whooping Crane Tour to be very rewarding. Our guides were knowledgeable and dedicated to ensuring the best possible experience, despite having to deal with the aftermath of an early snowstorm and terrible driving conditions. I am not an experienced birder so I learned a great deal. We encountered a large number of bird and animal species. The massive flocks of snow geese, the various shorebirds and of course, the Whooping Cranes amidst the Sandhill Crane flocks were all highlights. I also enjoyed the variety of habitats we toured, from the prairies to the beauty of Prince Albert National Park.

An early snow storm in Saskatoon caused most of the clients to be a day late. I was diverted to Edmonton while some ended back in Toronto. Anyway, we spotted many sandhill with some whooping cranes eating grain in the fields. We worked our way to Prince Albert National Park for boreal (small) birds. Lots of birds and mammals on this trip. I think the snow made my pics more interesting.

My wife Anne and I were part of the Saskatchewan Whooping Cranes tour in October 2018. To say it was outstanding is putting it mildly. We had spectacular experiences of Saskatchewan waterfowl, waders, and especially Whooping Cranes (more than 100 in a wheat field north of Saskatoon - unforgettable!). The leaders, Ken de Smet and Rudolf Koes were congenial, highly knowledgeable and a pleasure to be with. We enjoyed the company of the leaders, the participants, and the wonderful experience of Saskatchewan in fall. Eric Mills
