I found the Saskatchewan Whooping Crane Tour to be very rewarding. Our guides were knowledgeable and dedicated to ensuring the best possible experience, despite having to deal with the aftermath of an early snowstorm and terrible driving conditions. I am not an experienced birder so I learned a great deal. We encountered a large number of bird and animal species. The massive flocks of snow geese, the various shorebirds and of course, the Whooping Cranes amidst the Sandhill Crane flocks were all highlights. I also enjoyed the variety of habitats we toured, from the prairies to the beauty of Prince Albert National Park.

An early snow storm in Saskatoon caused most of the clients to be a day late. I was diverted to Edmonton while some ended back in Toronto. Anyway, we spotted many sandhill with some whooping cranes eating grain in the fields. We worked our way to Prince Albert National Park for boreal (small) birds. Lots of birds and mammals on this trip. I think the snow made my pics more interesting.

My wife Anne and I were part of the Saskatchewan Whooping Cranes tour in October 2018. To say it was outstanding is putting it mildly. We had spectacular experiences of Saskatchewan waterfowl, waders, and especially Whooping Cranes (more than 100 in a wheat field north of Saskatoon - unforgettable!). The leaders, Ken de Smet and Rudolf Koes were congenial, highly knowledgeable and a pleasure to be with. We enjoyed the company of the leaders, the participants, and the wonderful experience of Saskatchewan in fall. Eric Mills

This is truly a bird oriented tour. It is all about seeing Whooping Cranes...the target bird..migrating south. The tour is centred around Saskatoon and excellent birding exists on the river walks adjacent to the hotel. Driving the rural routes around Saskatoon you may find a few Whooping Cranes or you may be in luck, seeing a flock of maybe a hundred. Eagle Eye has a very good success rate and are known to help the competition find the target bird. The trip to Prince Albert National Park closes the tour; there is a lot of driving associated with this effort and I would have enjoyed another day looking for the target bird.

Each day was well planned and there were alternatives in case we were unable to find the Whooping Cranes. We were lucky to find the flock on the first day and able to enjoy observing the birds for a good amount of time. This allowed us to spend the remaining days exploring Saskatchewan a bit more and to find more birds and wildlife. Our guides went to some trouble to find Saskatoon Berry pie for one of our travellers and we all enjoyed this on our final evening. Dealing with Eagle Eye makes travel easy and the tours do not disappoint.

Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by attributes, so did not give a rating. This was a fabulous trip and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see whooping cranes. On our first day we saw a large group of cranes that was relatively close and had lots of time to take photos and watch them. The next day our guides took us to several different areas south of Saskatchewan and on the third day we drove to Prince Albert National Park. I have a few things that I am critical of, but that do not affect my impression of the trip as a whole. First is the lunch on the second day. We had the leftovers from the first and there was not enough food for everyone to get a fair share. On our second two days we spent ages standing and looking at very distant geese and ducks, too far away for binoculars, and birds that are seen in abundance on the west coast. I would have liked to spend more time looking for the smaller birds in riparian areas and fields. The third part of the trip that I was not keen on was the very long drive to and from Prince Albert National Park. It seemed to me that we spent far to long driving and not nearly enough time looking at birds and, again, when we did, too much time spent gazing at distant birds out on the lakes and then a rush through the pine forest. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and very willing to answer all the questions from the group.

I saw 5 Whoopers ,which I regard as a miracle since there are so few of them ,for such a short time in such a huge area. They migrate in 2s or3s with thousands of sandhill cranes. To find one is like looking for one needle in large number of haystacks, but our resourceful guide found them and we got good views through telescopes In the tour we saw a lot of Saskatchewan wildlife inc.a magnificent bull moose "marooned" in a small copse & lake in the middle of infinite prairie. A very successful tour, great guide, good food and a small friendly group---just like all Eagle-eye trips. Gerry from Ontario
