The Core 500 isn't as easy to use on animals as the Core Littman. The ear piece amplification isn't as clear or as loud as I expected. The EKG readings require lots of alcohol to dampen the hair before a decent image of the EKG is obtained. Not all of my patients are candidates for shaving off chest hair. I will continue to work with my Core 500 to see if things get better. Dr B

I bought this and believe me when I say it is definitely the best stethoscope I’ve ever used as far as durability and sound quality. I’ve used it on several patients and it is definitely a very useful tool but I’ve also noticed a few down sides to it. The main one being that it’s not the most convenient tool in every aspect of health care. I work in EMS sometimes immediate interventions need to be done and this is not the most practical tool for that. I couldn’t take a manual blood pressure with it when I needed to and sometimes I was in a situation where I need to immediately listen to lung sounds for example but couldn’t because I had to wait for a few seconds for it to turn back on and then I could listen. The ekg feature is cool and can be useful but in EMS depending on the complaint I’m typically gonna put the patient on the cardiac monitor anyway so it was kind of pointless to have it and plus it takes forever to analyze and is extremely touchy when trying to take an ekg and would get poor signal readings often. Like I said this is by far the best stethoscope I’ve ever used just not the most practical in EMS. It’s great in a more clinical environment like a doctors office, probably where its best suited honestly. Just not in my field. The core is the best one for my field and I’m going to go back to using it.
