“I bought the Horizon over other competing scooters for a few reasons. First off, it's faster than any of the really popular models I've seen. Most go 15-20mph, and the Horizon goes 25mph.
The range is also better: most claim 15-28 miles while the Horizon claims 25. But from the reviews I've seen, most range estimates are WAY overblown, but the Horizon estimate is actually realistic. I went about 9 miles the first time I took it out, and I still had 3/5 bars of capacity (and I'm 250 lbs, which should negatively impact my range significantly compared to someone half my weight).
Speaking of weight, the Horizon is actually rated for 265lbs, while almost all competitors are rated at 220lbs. I'm sure those competitors would hold me just fine, but I feel a bit better about having the right hardware.
One thing I don't see people mention much is the handlebar width. End to end it's like 23", which is very comfortable and feels stable. Having your hands closer together makes every turn more dramatic and less sure, so I really appreciate how long they are. But also, it's great that they fold down for travel.
Other features are great, too. Adjustable handlebar height, adjustable positioning for the throttle and brake (and bell), front pneumatic tire, the suspension, and the kickstand are all great.
It's not the smallest scooter, but I wouldn't trust the small lower-cost options with the bumpy streets of NYC. It weighs more than some competitors, but all the features I mentioned add to the weight. I'm extremely satisfied and would buy this again in a heartbeat.”
“This is my first electric scooter and I couldn't have made a better choice. The three speed modes are perfect for the different people I let ride it.”
“I still think that it's a good little scooter. It's absolutely already paid for itself versus riding rental scooters. I've put about 200 miles on it in the last year and a half--typically about 1/2 mile at a time. Three things that I would point out are:
The rear drum brake really isn't very good. It won't stop you very quickly and is not very easily adjustable. The braking quality is below your typical Lime or Bird scooter.
My rear fender broke pretty quickly. The plastic is fairly brittle and, especially because the drum brake is bad, you do need to step on it occasionally for extra braking. It looks to be a fairly involved replacement process. In my mind, a fender replacement shouldn't be much more than an unsnap and resnap.
I've gotten two flat tires in the front. Changing them is a process. The axle isn't well-lubricated and it takes a while to get the wheel off. The wheels themselves seem to be incredibly cheaply made. The metal surfaces are all unpolished and the edges are all incredibly sharp. It's possible that they contribute to the flat tires. Trying to take off the tire and change the tube without gloves on is a recipe for a bloody-knuckled disaster. I'd highly recommend finding a solid front tire so that you don't have to change your tire more than once.
All things considered, would I buy it again. Maybe if it was on sale. I think that the performance/price ratio for electric scooters has been going up and there may be some other options out in the market now that I would consider which I didn't 18 months ago.”
Hi Sebastian - We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Horizon after only one month. We'd be happy to send you a replacement tube, please message us at support@fluidfreeride.com. Also, we offer a tire sealant on our website, if you want to prevent future flats all together. BR
“I received this scooter about a month ago and I have put 100 miles on it so far. I use this scooter to commute to work in NYC. I get a top speed of 24 mph as a 154lb rider and the range hasn't been an issue so far. I definitely get at least 20 miles on a single charge given my weight. If you're thinking of a scooter that's not too heavy and that can go pretty fast and far, this is the one! I love mine. No issues with the scooter but I would have really been happy with a one year warranty rather than 6 months, given the price of the scooter.”
