Comparing this set to the original core set, you get all of the same components and number of ships but the newer Tie Fighters and X-wings are stronger and more maneuverable than their counterparts in the original set. For example the new Tie fighters cost 3 more squad points than their counterparts in the original core set but they come with a shield, an added maneuver, target lock, and an added upgrade type. Thus, if you are new to the game and are trying to decide which core set to buy I recommend this one or buying them both as this will get you the variety and two sets of dice and maneuver measurement tools.

If you like star wars and you're into strategy games you will love X-Wing Miniatures. I have been into strategy board games for years but this is the first table-top game I've ever owned. The game is deep and can be as simple or complex as you and your friends make it. Well worth the investment for hours of thought and fun!

I really liked it, I just wish you could get the damage deck by itself. With the ships I ordered I can't even really use most of the ships and cards, but they were fun to paint.

I consider myself a gamer, though my experience pales in comparison to most. This game though, is one of the best games I've come to play! The movement with the maneuver dials and not revealing them till its time for your figure to move is a great mechanic where you really have to be strategic about where you move or you could end up in some real danger! I'd say the few downfalls of the game are that: you need more than a core set to really have a great game and it only plays 2 people (unless you house rules it and play from multiple sides of the play area with up to 4 people). Overall this is an awesome game, but you're going to need to sink a lot of money into it if you want to have the best games you can have.

I demoed this X-wing set with a friend that bought it and I bought it the next day. It includes everything you need to play X-Wing and comes with new ships, cards, and asteroids for any player that already owns the original starter set. The inclusion of Poe Dameron is worth the price alone, especially the great deal on Miniature Market. His awesome ship and cards change the entire strategy of the game!

this set is an excellent addition to the game as well as a starting point to the game as it introduces 2 new ships and a new damage deck.

The T-70 X-wing is a solid ship, with a great ace in Poe, the BB-8 astromech is a lot of fun, and the F/O ties are very maneuverable and a lot of fun to fly. To friends who are getting into the game, I tend to recommend this core set over the red one, but getting both is really worth it too.

First things first, the new X-Wing and TIE Fighters look fantastic. They are easily the best looking miniatures in their size and really show off the new design of the Resistance's X-Wing. They are also mechanically superior to their original counterparts. The T70 X-Wing is much more maneuverable with a new upgrade slot while the TIE/FO has a shield and target lock capability. All the pilots are entirely new with some really cool abilities, particularly Poe Dameron. There is even a bit of benefit for the old X-Wings with a new modification and the great BB-8 astromech giving them some survivability and maneuverability they've never really had before. The other components are excellent. There's an updated rulebook as well as a reference book for all of the maneuvers and extra rules for things like cloaking and bombs that are not otherwise relevant to this core set. Unfortunately, the nature of an ongoing game has made a bit of the information out of date with the current FAQ. There are new asteroids and new missions so existing players definitely have reason to buy beyond the ships but perhaps the most interesting new component is the new damage deck. While a lot of the deck is the same, builds running elite pilots and/or secondary weapons will definitely find this deck less frustrating. Overall, the Force Awakens core set is a fantastic starting place for new players and also a welcome addition for long-term players.
