This new set is a great upgrade from the original set. If you you don't have the original, buy this one first. I recommend being both core sets to have a larger battle and the extra pieces are a nice convenience.

This game is worth getting just for the miniatures. Beautifully detailed resin models that are hard to beat. But that's just the Frosting on the cake. If you like Strategy Games, you have to try this one. And then there is this.. It is Star Wars. Who doesn't want to control the Millennium Falcon?

This can be played as a stand-alone or in addition to the Star Wars X-Wing series, only with the updated blue X-Wings (for Force Awakens) and slightly different style TIE Fighters. Fantasy Flight continues the same high quality miniatures in the games as the previous version and in Armada. For those already familiar with the other core set of X-Wing, the damage cards are different and the ships play a little differently. Interestingly, the TIE Fighters seem slightly overpowered compared to the single X-Wing (as compared to the red version, where the X-Wing commonly wins), even though this adds in a cool new type of roll and sharp turn for the X-Wing. It still lacks one attack die and one defense die to be able to play the game with no other additions (can either purchase an additional dice pack or use an app on your smartphone to roll the extra). There are 3 missions included (different from the previous set) and different asteroids, so this can easily stack with the other version for expanded playability. Rules and the rule book are also improved, especially for novices trying to pick up the gameplay. They include a summary, which comes in very handy. So, it plays fine by itself - it is compatible with the other expansion ships and red core set - and is definitely worth the pick up.

Really nice starter. Everything you need to start playing right out of the box. They have made some improvements with this edition over the original, but ideally you should get both.

love this game and this set takes it to the next level. this can be either a first or second set, depending on if you've played before. the orignial set has ships from the original trilogy and this one has ships from the Force Awakens. For less than the price of 3 additonal ships, you get the ships, extra dice, pilots, damage deck and a lot more. This set is fantastic for either an introduction to the game or as a great way to expand your fleet of miniatures.

X-Wing Core Sets are great values for the money, and this one comes with an improved damage deck and templates with some useful new markings for those who have already invested in the system. The models use new, highly-detailed molds and have outstanding paint jobs. FFG's manufacturers have really refined their mass-produced painting techniques over the years and the results are in this box.

This is the second core set for X-Wing Miniatures Game. It adds new ships like the T-70 X-Wing and the Tie F/O. It also adds a brand new Damage Deck, that come Jan 1, 2016 will be required for competitive play. It is far better damage deck. No long will some critical hits be brutal against certain builds and utterly pointless against others. They are far more balanced across all builds. It also adds a new set of 6 asteroids. These will go into the pool of asteroids and debris fields that you can choose from when you build a squadron. The starter is a great value, because for less than the price of three individual ships, you get three ships, a damage deck, 6 dice, maneuver templates, and more. It is a very good deal.
