This is our first Lego train set and our first lego anything that is battery powered (and wow does it take a lot of batteries). My 5 year old is really getting into Lego and since I never grew up with proper sets (just hand me down bins of them), we are experiencing the fun and satisfaction of building different sets. This one was a a bit of a different experience than some of the sets we have built, as there wasn't as much building to do. Since the set it aimed for 7+, I did a good portion of the building while he helped find pieces and interpret the instructions. It was a quick build and he immensely enjoys the powered aspect of it (especially since our only other train toy has to be pushed by hand). We both agree we wish it had some more track pieces to make it better suited as a city train with the rest of the city builds, but otherwise its a pretty neat little set according to two beginners.

I purchased this for my 5 yr old as a birthday gift and I ended up assembling it on my own. My boy loved it and takes the credit for assembly.

First off, note that this set that the set includes everything you need to have a working, powered train running around your child's city (or a portion of it, depending on how big it is). Yes, it's expensive when you just look at the piece count, but the powered up parts alone (hub, motor, controller, and light) would cost almost $100 if purchased separately. Plus it's got all those tracks. Yes, they could have charged half as much and then had you buy the extras piecemeal - but there are other sets that offer that option. I personally think this is a nice way to get the whole package in one nice set.As for the build experience, it's definitely something well within the listed age range, although I think older kids will have fun with it too due to the powered additions, especially if they haven't much experience with that before. It can add some life to their Lego city.

Great set for the lego or train lover. Well made, and lots of fun to build. Good pieces, easy to assemble with well made instructions.

This is quite a build = at 764 pieces with remote control powerand dimmable headlights.Includes 7 bags of bricks / pieces - 24 pc track - 6 figures - 4 instruction booklets. And a small sheet of 10 stickers which I was a little surprised there weren't a few more. This is the largest set so far that our 8 yr old granddaughter has builtand although the size makes it more challenging, it's not complicatedand she loves it = and well pretty much all things Lego. It's a blast when finished but requires 10 AAA batteries (not included)which I didn't realize until I received the set to find it on the box.And BTW - this Bluetooth technology isn't compatible with older train products. The TRACK takes up a lot of real-estate at 27 1/2" wide - 47 1/2" long oval.> The train is 3 1/3" tall - 33 1/2" long - 2" wide. This is a very cool set, but a bit on the expensive side.

This is an amazing set! The train and tracks work wonderfully. They do have to be placed correctly and it has taken my grandson some time to master that but he doesn’t get frustrated so I am very proud of him. Both the train and the tracks are large but not so big that they take up too much room to leave set up. We have set up the tracks on the floor and on my kitchen table. The train does have doors but it’s not easy to reach inside to “play” or remove passengers. Instead the top lifts off for better access. Of course, you don’t have to remove anyone if it’s not a set to play with. The remote is straightforward and works flawlessly with the set. The battery life is okay. It really does get heavy use around my house so that could be why we have to change the batteries more often. The grandkids adore this set and even the younger ones squeal as it goes around the track. I have bought some motorized trains in the past and so often they are a flop and end up in the trash. This one surpassed expectations. They always remind me of a Christmas train. You could use this set for a small table top tree or add more tracks for a standard sized tree. The pieces and the instructions were straight forward. It was a build that my grandson took his time on and he didn’t rush. I would say that for the price, this set delivered on performance and build time. I prefer for sets to not be too easy and quick to finish since that’s a great deal of the process.
