Freewing F9F Panther 64mm EDF Jet - PNP Reviews

4.6 Rating 407 Reviews
Since getting some more flight time after buying this a while back I still love it. I get consistent easy hand launches with a light slightly nose up push, she goes into a slightly nose high harrier but never loses speed enough to stall and this harrier attitude gives me time to get my hand on the radio. I find the screw recesses for the EDF cover on bottom are a good finger hold spot with pinky finger forward of that for support. One on the sticks I begin feeding a little down elevator to level the nose off and it picks up speed and flies level hands off after a little trimming.Speed is respectable for those used to flying 3s powered sport planes and is enough to be fun, roll rate is quick but with some expo I don't feel it's overly sensitive so any sport plane flyer should have no trouble.Belly landing is just as easy, I throttle back on the base leg approach and chop power at runway threshold and let her maintain a slight nose down descent , level off ahead of intended landing spot just above the 12k and it slides in smooth.

Followed the 36mm CG in the manual and the plane flew tail heavy. Flies better with 30mm CG. Other than that - I would have given this a 5 star.

Don't know what all the fuss is about for launching this bird. Just use the Admiral 3-cell 2200 and put it all the forward. Launches with an easy toss. Flies straight, rolls great and loops nicely. It will seem nose heavy, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT JUST LAUNCH IT AND SEE IT GO. Glides in super slow for great landings too.Awesome little jet.

An important update(up to 5 stars)...I now have 2 F9F Panthers and 12ided to install the optional landing gear on 1 of them to experience the difference. This really makes flying this plane much easier for those of you having launching problems. I'm using a Hobby People 3S 2200mAh 30C(175grams), only because I had them...otherwise my other batteries are all Admirals w/no issues at all. Placing that battery all the way forward, almost touching the nose-wheel servo arm is perfect placement for the CG. She takes off really smooth, and by using a Flapperon/Elevator mix to land, this helps a lot with slowing her down nicely for landing. You will have to remove the Y harness on the ailerons and use 09arate channels for each aileron(Aileron and Aux1 channel), to utilize the Flapperon feature on Spektrum radios.

I won this airplane in the monthly Social Media Sweepstakes! What a wonderful surprise! I had a long wait for good weather, but when I flew it the 3d time, it was one of the most exciting flights I have had. The first 2 times it went straight up and crashed, but repairable with a split fuselage. Then I added a rudder (Easy to do) and had someone hand launch it gently with a slight nose up and 3/4 power. Perfect flight and awesome sound. This is a fun airplane. Ted Williams would have been proud (For you younger guys, he was a very famous, Hall of Fame, homerun hitter w/the Red Sox who took some time to fly in the Korean War in the F9F. A real Patriot he was). I am 80, so this was my chance to enjoy some history. I think I'll buy another Panther as this was such a thrill to fly. Thank you to all the vets in Motion RC. You are doing a great job and thanks for the wonderful surprise!

I like the packaging on the F9F, it was well packed. The assembly was fairly straight forward except when installing the tail section to make sure the elevator cables were out of the way of any epoxy app. I made sure the paint was removed on areas where the epoxy would go to attach the part. I used 220 sand paper to remove the paint. I am getting ready to fly it soon, in the mean time it looks great. Their are some minor Quality issues. Thats why 4 star rating.

This was my first EDF jet and i am very impressed!! building it was a breeze and setup equally as simple. Once out on the field and throttled up she flew amazing on the first hand launch. Made some minor trim adjustments and spent the rest of the morning zipping across our flying field. Motion RC was awesome on the delivery as it showed up a day earlier than expected and in perfect condition.

I'm providing another Panther review because I bought another one. I must say that this jet is really a great way to fly especially if you're new to jets. I just had to have 2. The problem I have come across again with Freewing is that the elevator servo with spacers, the screws were both stripped again and would definitely cause a crash. I used beefier screws to solve the problem. Also the motor again only has 2 of 4 screws securing the motor to the mount. I have learned to check these things since buying a Freewing A10 and both EDF's were the same as well as my first Panther. I wish MRC would do something about this poor quality of Freewing. I feel that if you buy a plane with EDF's preassembled than they should be secured properly.
