I have over 1000 hours of actual flight time flying the F-8 while in the Navy in the late 1960's. This model is an awesome replica of the aircraft. Great detail. Sure brings back some great memories. Well done !!!

There are 2 main things about this airplane that bother me:1: It really needs the wing to bolt on rather than be glued. The best location for the RX (especially if someone is using a gyro RX) is way back under the wing near the CG. There's even a good platform back there, but that makes the RX inaccessible. Also, should there be an issue with the installed servos, you have to cut and dig, vs with the wing removable they would be easy to get to.Solving this one and making it look good will need plastic or plywood inserts in the top of the wing and in the fuselage. I estimate 30 to 40 grams if done by the factory. It would be even more for me to do it and so I'm living with the wing glued on.2: It really should have 2 servos on each side for separate ailerons and elevators. This is fortunately an easy modification and it took just a couple of minutes to make openings to put the added servos in. I put them directly below the OEM servos. Its an easy mod BEFORE the wing is on. Not so easy with the wing glued in place. With the added servos and the landing gear kit, I'm using 6 channels. This allows full mixing to get everything out of the model that is possible. If I want the elevators to follow the ailerons for added roll (it doesn't do much...) its available at the flip of a switch.I can have the ailerons work opposed to the elevator to dampen pitch rate (this is the default for the airplane) or I can have them work with the elevator for higher pitch rate, or I can have them not move with elevator input, or I can have them work as flaperons. Its turning out that mild flaperon is pretty good for landing and I leave the elevator-aileron and aileron-elevator mixes off.Others report the model as twitchy and I can see how having ailerons and elevator linked as per the manual (using just 2 servos) will cause that. You can't do the precision trimming in flight that is possible with the 4 servo setup. Its just too easy to have the airplane cross-trimmed.I'm only adding appx 30 grams to the model with 2 more servos... There's more variance in the weights of LiPos we'll use in these models.

Good model to put together, but a handful in flight, very twitchy and unstable.

Wanted to try an EDF so I snagged this one. Super easily to assemble, although assembly is almost all glue. Very stable. Doesn’t have any poor characteristic on a hard hand toss (which is required for launch). Fast and reliable. Enjoyed it so much that I now have 4 freewing EDFs.

Recommended battery doesn't provide enough power. Using a larger battery causes instability. Very squirrely. Got it back in one piece. Had a more experienced jet pilot fly it too. He disliked its' performance. Looks nice but much can't be said for its' performance. I think I will just put it up on the shelf and admire it for its' looks.I was going to purchase the panther but after flying this one I have changed my mind. Sorry. It was given to me as a birthday present. I am not a verified purchaser.
