“Put the first six flights on my new Mirage HP this afternoon. What a thrill! With the new 9b inrunner set up it has tons of power and more than enough speed to make it exciting. Use a 4000mah and got over 4 minutes with no problem. Control throws were out of the book with the exception of the ailerons which I reduced. I started out with the CG at 520mm and moved it back slightly with each flight. Landings are a lot of fun. My approach was typical delta, slightly higher and I just brought the nose up and adjusted the throttle to control the sink rate. I landed with almost full up elevator, kept the nose high until it slowed down. Glad I ordered the 3D printed nozzle. It not only looks great, but it’s durable because I dragged it on the runway several times.Things you must do:1. High rate rolls, the Mirage looks like a drill bit. It’s fun! Reminds me of the Diamond Dusts a bunch of us flew in the 90’s.2. High Alpha slow speed, it slows to a craw.3. High speed low passes, it zips. Not to mention it sounds like Airwolf going by. It had the people at the field talking. The Mirage is simple, easy to transport in one piece, and Motion offers it at a very reasonable price. Hard to beat!”

“The Mirage lives up to its name for sure, as you sometimes can’t be sure what you’re seeing. This is a lot of airplane and it gets small very quick if you aren’t paying attention. If it’s any distance away at all, it can quickly become challenging to tell your orientation. Keep it in close, especially on the first few flights. This is my second jet and I wouldn’t recommend it to an RC beginner or as a first jet. Assembly was simple enough as well as setting up all the controls, but the throws in the manual are WAY too much especially for first flights. Aileron throws should be cut in half or more, and the elevator could stand to be a bit lower but that isn’t as bad. Delta wings don’t need much aileron at all. Flying - using a 4500mAh 45c pack pushed all the way back, CG was perfect. Coated the nylon battery strap with the included glue to provide a rubbery coating that holds the battery in place better. Take off from grass is no issue and it flies amazingly well. It does exactly what you tell it to, sometimes better than you expected. It’s very fast and maneuverable with outstanding high alpha capabilities and unlimited vertical. Sometimes it seems the only way to get it to slow down is to pull some high alpha. Not to worry, it is very stable doing this with enough power to climb out of it vertically. Landing will be a bit fast because if you come in with too much nose up, you could strike the tail cone and break it off. Expect 3:30 minute flights on 4500mah. I still have a long ways to go to get used to it, but it has no “bad habits” and it sure is exciting to fly. If you’re a somewhat experienced jet pilot looking for peak performance out of the box and a unique flying challenge, this is the aircraft for you.”

“After seeing one fly at EDF Jet Jam, I knew the Mirage was next on my list. The vertical climb appeared unlimited, and it looked to be easily 150 mph plus in a dive. The owner claimed it was radar clocked at 170. Mine arrived a few weeks later, and I was quite impressed. Tiger meet decals were well applied, finish is really nice. This jet feels LIGHT,I have not weighed it, but its far lighter than any other 80mm I own. Before the maiden I set ailerons to 5mm low/8mm high, and around 85 percent elevator (Spektrum) and it was perfect! Recommended book rates are WAY to high as others noted, and likely will result in a crash if flown on high rates! I have not flown it with drop tanks, and didn't add fuel boom, or any other glue on things- other than a really bright white strobe for the top to help with orientation. I was told by the guy at Jet Jam if you remove the scale cones in the intake, it will increase the speed even more. I may do this after I get more comfortable with the high speed passes. I absolutely love this thing!! Totally satisfies the need for speed and without question is my favorite 80mm jet. It's also a hoot to almost hover it- then punch it and start climbing fast vertical! Buy this jet if you have experience and want the ultimate speed demon. And it did fly just fine on fairly short grass.”
“This is my favorite Freewing EDF by far. It's the most aerobatic. It will fly the slowest. It's next to impossible to stall. It's one of the fastest too. It really has few weaknesses. I purchased this one as a spare and haven't flown it yet, I like it that much I wanted to make sure I kept one flying at all times. The only areas of improvement it needs are first, the nose retract will often stall trying to close the spring loaded door and then not fully retract and second, battery space is very limited. It's good on stock power but even better with some relatively inexpensive upgrades. Assuming you have the visual acuity to keep track of this one and make sure to reduce the aileron throws for your first flights, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. I only wish they made it in an ARF plus.”

“i just attempted the maiden of this pretty edf.build was simple setup great and preflight went well even taxi test was fine..but then i ran it down our very and i mean very smooth grass runway with low cut grass and it folded the nose gear back and while that happened it pulled enough the nose went down and into the grass with the plane doing a nose over tail cart wheel. in the end the fuse was in two parts at the front of the steering servo. upon inspection freewing had made a second groove in the foam fuse insides abothe the light ply plate that was cut out leaving less than a half inch width on each fuse side for gear and nose supports. this second groove could have easily had a simple carbon rod or square hardwood stringer in it to help the frontal load. it had neither. i feel this was all my fault after 40 plus years in rc i should have thought to beef it up to standards myself as i did the same mod in the freewing a10 80mm and it has stood the test of time well.....so im not asking for warranty only that things like this can be made better in the future and hopes this thought is taken as help not complaint. motion rc and i have been together since they opened horsefeet on rcg horsefeetky on rcu”

“Please note, this review is not yet based on flying this plane. I'm hoping it's going to fly well. This review is based on the build. One of the wings does not fit together to the fuselage. There are 4 connections points to the wings in total (2 per wing). 3 of the 4 are just fine. The 4th connection point in no way aligns. You can see that the connection point on the fuse was put in upside down. i've been able to make it work by making some cuts. The wing is slightly weaker as a result and no way this should have been necessary. It will eventually fly, but I would not buy this again. I do wonder why this model doesn't have any reviews. I have the Freewing 80mm Avanti S, and that is really an amazing plane. I was hoping for similar quality.”
