FlightLine 1600mm F7F Shock Absorbing Upgrade Landing Gear Set Reviews

4.5 Rating 51 Reviews
Some people reported issues with front landing gear. I did not have any issues with front landing gear. However I had an issue with main landing gear. The landing gear by itself is OK, but in combination with TigerCat gear doors there is an issue. When main landing gear goes up the thinner part of the strut catches the spring that goes between left and right gear door (for the same wheel) and the spring can not slide forward during the gear retracting. Because of that the spring has higher tension and the tire is hugged by gear doors with higher force and the gear motor does not have enough power to pull the tire that is being hugged by the doors. This will not happen if the spring happens to be oriented towards the front of airplane because then it will not catch the thinner part of strut but the ticker part of the strut and will be able to slide towards front like it does for regular landing gear. The solution is to make sure the spring is oriented towards front of the airplane by using rubber band, or whatever works for you.

Bought the upgrade along with the plane. Main gear works fine. Be aware of the nose gear! All in all, it isn't too bad, however, the is one MAJOR design flaw! The whole steering assembly hinges on ONE very tiny, either a 1-64 or 1-72, screw. It is located on the backside of the steering yoke. After a number of taxi tests and one flight to set up the cg, I inspected the landing gear and found a lot of play in the nose wheel. Upon inspection, I found this tiny screw had stripped it's threads and was ready to fall out. Very difficult to measure but it appears to be about 2.85mm long. when I measured the assembly that it threads into, the length should have been a shade shy of 4mm so as not to contact the shock rod. Now with about half the threads stripped out, I'm going to have to disassemble the unit and drill and tap for at least two 2-56 set screws. This should give it enough strength to withstand the stress of this fairly heavy aircraft. Keep a close eye on yours! You loose this tiny screw and you will lose control of your aircraft. Hope this helps.

My upgrade struts arrived a few days ago, the installation went well and they look very impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing how they react to my sometimes rough landings LOL. they are an improve version of the initial upgrades, meaning no modifications are needed to get the nose gear to retract. Easy to install and they operate as designed.

A little disappointed with this upgrade - main gear ok but really needs to be more scale in terms of robustness, it's to spindly. The nose gear required extensive mods to pre-tension/load the gear to enable the gear to fully stow and allow the doors to close. Also, there is no attach point for the gear door spring and required the spring to be bent and attached to a screw on the front of the gear leg - not very secure and will probably keep coming loose.

I got these for my new F7F Tigercat as my field I use is really rough. They went in just fine but if you are using these, the nose gear has to be modified in order for the gear doors to close all the way when retracted. It's a semi-easy fix but this should have been taken care of in producing these for this plane to start with. If you buy these for the plane be prepared to do this mod to the nose gear or be happy with half open gear doors on it while flying. Other than this hiccup, they look like they will handle my runway just fine now.

Mains are excellent. Nose gear totally sucks. Somebody needs to do a redesign and send the corrected nose gear to us loyal customers who bought a flawed product.
