Biggest really does fly better and it doesn't get any better in foam than the Flightline 1600mm Spitfire. Good looks, great outline, quality build and ease of assembly. A little tip, I found it to balance better with the CG 10mm forward of where the manual suggests. The admiral 5100mah 6S is the perfect pack to achieve this balance point with.

My previous review reflected on the brief maiden flight that ended in a nosedive from about 3 feet, wiping off the landing gear. I decided the problem lay in the Admiral RX-600S 6-channel receiver with gyro I had not set up adequately. I turned off the gyro and fixed the airplane. Maiden flight number two went better, but the throws on elevator were too high and likely the CG was too far back; touchy. I landed it successfully. I cut down some on throws, cranked in about 30 percent expo and added about 1.75 ounces of lead strip glued in the cowl behind the spinner. Flights today were great! I flew it with both 5000 and 6000 MAh batteries. The Spit grooves like it is supposed to. Ailerons are snappy and the elevator is just about right. I still have to do some adjusting of the flaps and elevator mix, if any. The big wing hardly needs flaps, she slows down beautifully and wheel landings are almost automatic. It is a spitfire and nose-overs are likely. The quality of the kit is outstanding, the finish and scale features make an almost museum quality airplane. I highly recommend this airplane if you want a big, pretty smooth-flying airplane that does a good job with aerobatics. Oh yes, I'm still using the same receiver. Maybe one day I'll work on setting up the gyros. With this big plane, they aren't really needed. The airplane draws admiring looks at the field, even from the jet-jocks. Mine is not new now, it bears the scars of my learning. Maybe I'll buy another one as a spare, I like it that much.

I wish I knew how it flies, but the maiden flight did not go well, in fact it lasted about 3 seconds.. Not sure whether it was pilot error or something the came undone. Takeoff roll was OK, speed appeared same as in videos I've watched. It lifted off after about 50 feet and at about 3 feet up, suddenly nosed over and wiped out gear, prop, cannon and put some wrinkles in the left wing. The gear did not seem to be attached firmly, which is good. It will be easier to glue back in. However one gear servo may be trashed, and gear doors and both struts need replacing. It does not crash well. Post mortem reveals all flying servos working OK and receiver, an Admiral RX600SP 6 channel with gyro stabilization, was checked out to be working properly, with gyro action in correct directions as are controls (I did a control check before taking off). I've used 3 of those receivers in various airplanes and have had good luck with them. The CG was OK though I was using a heavier battery, the Admiral Pro 6000 six-cell. That big wing should handle the weight. The kit is impressive, it builds into a big, beautiful airplane that looks to be almost museum quality. I ordered special decals from Callie Graphics for Douglas Bader's spit. I don't care for the wiring setup, nor the interior layout that makes it a challenge to place the receiver where you can get at it. I really like the wing wiring setup on the Freewing A-10 that has one plug in each wing to connect all wing servos and lights. The blue box works, but one still has too many wires to deal with. The water-transfer decals are not up to the quality of the rest of the kit. I will rebuild the airplane, and I will fly it. I will also redouble my pre-flight checks to make sure everything is airworthy before rolling down the runway again.
