Freewing Pandora 4-in-1 Red 1400mm (55") Wingspan - PNP Reviews

4.6 Rating 139 Reviews
Ok, here is my two cents. Super Easy assembly even with all the configuration parts. I have only flown in low wing tricycle mode and it does not fly like a trainer set up that way. More like a sport plane. First time out I was surprised on how low the power output was. Made it difficult to fly. Soooo.... In goes the 4s motor and 50 amp esc. WOW...now we're talking. I love this thing. The new motor sticks out 1/2 Inch but you can hardly tell. Plenty of room in fuse to move a 3400mah battery around to get CG correct, although I did trim the hatch a little.Bumped to a 11x8 and 9 prop and this bird does it all and easy to land. There is some cheap hardware and the directions are a joke but if this is your second or third plane you won't have a problem. I am flying off very short grass and so far ( 25 or so landings) the nose gear is holding up but I don't taxi it.Thanks Motion for Great service and an awesome web site.

Four planes for the price of one is a killer deal. Not needing any glue to put together was a nice surprise. Six screws are all it takes. Two screws remove the wing and it's quick to fit in any car. I use the Admiral 3s 2200, but even their Admiral 3s 3300 works perfect. Flying for ten minutes on that battery . Buy the Hobby Eagle A6 gyro for super easy flying maybe in the future. This plane doesn't need it. Super simple and the best trainer. The foam is really nice. You might want to paint a black stripe under the wing so it's easy to see from the ground.

I ordered mine on Thursday and received it on Monday. Thanks. Went together in less that two hours, no problems. I configured mine as a high wing tail dragger because I am a new pilot and our club has a grass field. I have about a dozen flights on it now. I have had two hard landings and have cracked the plastic on the landing gear. I have added expo and it flies well. No other damage to the plane. I would recommend this plane.

Plane arrived in excellent condition and is packed well. The rudder and elevator push rods were both too short and were unable to be used. I replaced them with the appropriate sixed piano wire. The included motor and speed control were barely adequate and were upgraded. I now fly it with a 2700mah 4S lipo and it flies with so much more authority and control and now I'm getting 9-10 minute average flights with it. I have only flown it with the bottom wing, tail dragger configuration. Even with the needed changes made to the motor and ESC I would still highly recommend this plane as a low wind trainer.

As you know I had bought the Freewing Spirit and felt it was a waste of money and a poorly thought out plane. I had reservations about buying another Freewing product but the reviews were good. The plane is great! Well thought out. Everything accessible and easy to adjust. Flies great. The only negatives was I was short changed the hardware to put on the propeller and spinner and 2 of the screws to attach the wings to the fuselage. Also the instructions were pretty awful but if you've put planes together before it was no problem. Overall a great Plane.

The Pandora 4-in-1 is my first RC aircraft. As I write this review, I have about 30-40 flights, all in the low-wing tail wheel configuration. Overall, I think the Pandora is an excellent and well constructed aircraft.Assembly - I couldn't understand the Chinglish instructions, but they weren't really necessary. Packaging was top notch and aircraft went together will little effort. I spent more time looking for missing prop nut and hardware than assembly. MotionRC replaced the missing parts in a couple of days. The aircraft is constructed of high quality foam. The wing span is large, and it won't fit in my mid-sized sedan without removing a wing (two screws). The hardware is a bit cheap and the screw heads are well on their way to being stripped; recommend purchase of spare hardware kit. Setup: I use an 11 x 7 E propeller and Admiral 2600 battery; I get 8-10 minutes of flight per charge. I have set the c.g. at the recommended setting (70-80 mm behind the L.E.) After flying it in gusty winds, my mentor recommended the Freewing E51 3-axis Flight Controller. I used the factory gains and the flight controller improved the flying qualities in gusty winds.Flying qualities - Excellent for a first aircraft. Plenty of roll control and pitch control. There is not enough nose up pitch authority to fully stall the wing; the aircraft, so at full aft stick and idle power, the aircraft enters a descent and the ailerons remain effective. I have been unable to spin the aircraft. The wing was moderate washout and moderate dihedral. It will fly inverted, but wants to roll upright. The aircraft has plenty of power to do simple acrobatics like loops and rolls. The rudder is narrow chord, and even with maximum mechanical throw (push rod connected to innermost hole on the control horn; there are no adjustments on any of the servo arms) full rudder deflection didn't have enough authority to allow the aircraft to track straight during takeoff once the tail wheel was off the ground. At full right rudder deflection, the push rod bows where it exits the fuselage. I thought about placing a tube around the push rod to keep if from bending. An easier solution was to add washers behind the engine mounts on the left side to offset the thrust line to the right. With this 5 minute modification, I was able to track center line on takeoff.Landing gear: When I opened the box, I was disappointed to see the large (4 - 90mm dia) main gear tires were made of foam. While they have held up reasonably well, they have noticeable wear after 40-50 takeoffs and landings on smooth concrete. So I bought a set of 3.5 Dup Bro tires. Unfortuately, the Dup Bro tires are considerably heavier than the foam tires, so I decided just to buy a second set of landing gear with the foam tires to use when the first set wears out. The landing gear are well designed and have absorbed some hard touchdowns without damage.

I have just started training using the Pandora as a Highwing/Trike gear Trainer. I am having fun, and my Trainer thinks it flys great. I watched him take it up solo to see how it would fly and he was doing a lot of maneuvers with it. I look forward to when I can fly it in its other configurations.
