Hi Craig, thanks for you feedback. As stated on our website, DEBOSSED letters are indeed much harder to read than modern EMBOSSED letters. Dogtags from the 40s through 60s were never actually intended to be read by humans from the front side, rather they were used for making carbon copies of the information with medical transcription equipment in the field. Nevertheless, you can make them much easier to read by rubbing black shoe polish into the indentations, a service we offer on our website.
