“This was an exact replacement for the previous one which lasted about 6 years. Installation took a few minutes. As far as value, it’s ok to great, but Costco did have a better and normally much more expensive brand on sale in the same price range, but might not have fitted in as easily.”
“Full disclosure, I was replacing my existing InSinkErator (same model) with this new one after 14 years of dependable service. As a result, my install was easier than some because mounting parts are already in place and can be reused. I decided to replace my old unit because the interior was totally rusted but still working fine. My install actually took longer than the 15 minutes I envisioned because I found quite a bit of rust on the mounting ring I intended to reuse and decided to use the new one provided. I would give 5 stars to this disposer because it's a good performer at this price point but I took away 1 star because the galvanized parts and interior ultimately rusted badly after, I estimate, only 7 years or so. I would prefer stainless steel instead but it requires a jump up to 3/4 horsepower model which I don't need. Hey InSinkErator, what about a simple option at time of purchase, this 1/2 HP model with SS components and a modest price premium reflecting that option?Oh, one tip....I used the small scissor jack from my truck to gently lift and position the disposer leaving me with two hands to hold and twist the retainer ring. Plugged it in, done.UPDATE: 2 WEEKS after installation the nut and bolt in the center of the grinding plate is already rusted. Why galvanize most of the grinding assembly and use a crappy mild steel bolt/nut to hold it in ?Come on, the difference in cost for a mild steel vs a stainless steel nut and bolt is what? 5 cents at most.”
“I had a badger 1/2 hp go out so I replaced it with same. Thought I could just swap them but not so easy. I ended up just replacing everything to make it all water tight. I tried to use the old flange that connected the disposal to the drain but that didn't work. I had to replace the flange, and add the rubber gasket and that fixed my leak. Then had to replace the pipe connecting the disposal to the drain. That wasn't necessarily a fault of the disposal...just an issue that popped up. When connecting the snap ring, they suggest putting the disposal on top of the flange in the sink but that didn't work...not enough weight. I used a 30 lb kettle bell to sit on the sink flange and was then able to put on the snap ring and get things going. The problem with plumbing is if you disturb anything, you risk multiple failures. It's not the fault of the disposal unit but just life with plumbing. I just installed it today and it's much quieter than the badger it replaced. Time will tell if it's worth it.”
“I just received this item, which makes me reluctant to rate it so soon. I must say that it was very easy to install, although I must say that I was replacing a virtually identical model. I had one issue, self-made, as I didn't read the instructions carefully enough. ;-) As a garbage disposal, it works, it's relatively quiet, and I don't ask much more than that, especially since I felt the price was right.”
“My Badger 1 came with my home and ran for 12 years. This Badger 5 was super easy to swap it with. The drain plug does take a few wacks with a hammer but popped right out. I've never done it before but it only took me about 30 minutes. The drain pipes lined up and I didn't even need to change out the sink part, the new one slid right on since they are the same size. I don't know if its actually quieter than my old one but it runs well so far. Very happy with my purchase.Update: Glad I bought the extra warranty cuz unfortunately this thing only lasted 30 months.. just stopped working 😕”
