InSinkErator BADGER5, Continuous-Feed Garbage Disposal without Cord, Waterborne Gray Enamel, 1/2 HP Reviews

4.1 Rating 590 Reviews
I had an old Badger 9 (same company) that went bad a couple of years ago but I decided to not replace it at the time because I'm on a septic and dont put scraps in the sink anyway. Well after years of this (I had a metal filter in the drain to catch debris) I decided that it was a pain to have to constantly clean the screen so I decided to replace the disposal after all.. Well, it was a 20 minute job. it had everything you need to replace my old one. Same inlet and outlet for dishwasher and drain. same adapter to go 90 degrees out of the disposal to the drain. Its about as quiet as my last one but it is a smaller model. the Badger 9 is 3/4 HP while this is 1/2 but it seems every bit as capable based on the sounds it makes.. its slightly shorter than my old one which is nice since it gives me a little more room under the sink. I was surprised at how easy it was to install and how easy the old one was to remove. the tool they give you will fit in the mounting ring on the old one allowing you to twist without having to use a hammer to remove and the tool will work to tighten the new on completely. I did have to lay on my side and stick my head in cupboard to get the new one in position but of course you do.. it wont install itself.. Dont be afraid to try it, you dont need to be handy to install this, just look at the old one first. Two things to help1, be sure to remove the small plug in the top drain for the dishwasher, it will need a hammer and punch to push through but you can stick your hand in to catch it.2, install the main drain adapter (if you need an adapter) to the disposal BEFORE you install under the sink and then reconnect the drain. Much easier that way. (just loosen the drain fittings first)There are better and options with more features but like I said, I almost never use it being on a septic so for me its perfect.. and for right at 100 dollars.. HD wanted 50% more for the same model.

Bought to replace an older failed model from the same brand. This one came with a regular wall plug. The old one had access to wire a wall plug or hard wire it directly. It took a lot of work to remove the wall cord from this one so u could wire it to the switch. Very simple to just include a detached cord for those who need it and allow access to wiring for those who don't. It does have an access panel, but good luck getting the cord grommet out, and you will have to cut wires

Very easy to install. Was an identical replacement 12 years old. Only issue so far was the plastic drain 90 deg connection was cracked. I installed the new disposal using the oold elbow.

This was a replacement for one that lasted 25 years. The previous one was quieter than this one.

Had the same unit and it rusted out. Quick turn with the provided wrench and the old one was out and the new one was in in less than half an hour

Bought the same model as our last one for easy installation, even knowing that our last one broke down with very little or no use (we don't put any foodstuff down the garbage disposer as it eventually accumulates in the drain pipe and clogs it up).
