“I bought this battery backup system in 2010 as part of Zoeller combo package which includes both the 507 backup and a M53 pump. It was used to replace the previous homeowner's cheapo pedestal pump, and it has been running strong ever since. Spring in my area is very damp, and a poor sump pump spells doom for your basement if you have anything of value down there. The battery backup has been put through two real-life emergencies as well as multiple "check-up" tests throughout the years, and has preformed perfectly each time. The first of these emergencies was my own doing. I put an aftermarket float switch on the assembly, but it got caught on the sump basin. The result was the M53 pump never turned on. Without hesitation as the water level hit my desired emergency-on point, the 507's alarm sounded and began working to empty the sump pit, and I sheepishly (yet thankful for this backup's performance) readjusted the float I put on the M53.Today is the second time the 507 was put in emergency use. The M53 base sump wasn't able handle all the melted snow and rain we have been overwhelmed with. It was coming in slightly faster than it was going out! Even with the M53 pumping its heart out, the water hit the 507's emergency float switch, and the 507 began helping to egress the sump pit hand-in-hand with the M53. The alarm sounded letting me know of the problem, and I watched as the the two pump's combined work got the pit's water level back under control.I am using a standard group 27 deep cycle battery found off the rack of pretty much any store that carries batteries.Confidence and dependability come at a price. This one is clearly worth it.”
“the backup pump can airlock very easily if you just simply follow the instruction. don't glue the pump directly into the tee because you will have to cut the tee in order to fix it. I had to adjust it after the first try and it was not fun. I should have read more carefully on some of the other comments. I also agree the build-in check value is not the best quality one, it will probably fail and cause more issues for the main pump later.”
“Decided to finally put my worries to rest and installed a whole new setup, Zoeller M53 with the 507 backup. Old pump was 10 years old and figured it's time. Purchased both of these items separately and plumbed myself, and trust me, I am no plumber, but it wasn't hard. Zoeller has great tech support if you need them. The supplied check valve screws right into the main M53 and has it's own built in weep hole, so no need to drill anything. I took the advise of others, and did not glue backup pump directly into supplied T, used a rubber splice as the built in check valve in the backup does have two screws if ever needed to be replaced. All the electrical hookups were straight forward. I unplugged the main cord of my M53 to test the backup and everything worked. Now I can be gone and feel comfortable that I have a backup system in place. Have had two failures in the past 10 years, which were both due to power outages.”
“Installed this after we lost power one storm. Haven’t had it kick on so I do not know how long it will last. Tested it out and not that loud. Easy to install.”
“It is a nice product but few parts could have come pre-installed such as the floating mechanism to the pump (pump to the T pipe shpuld have been glued pre shipping and the float to its housing that it needs a little piece that was missing from the part-only I had to wait for another one to show up to return the missing parts. Otherwise a nice product. That is the only reason fro 3 starts otherwise 4 or 5.”
