“My basement is entirely underground and required a sewage ejector pit to be able to have a bathroom. Unfortunately, my wet bar was on the other side of the basement and it was not practical to tear up the floor for 20 feet to run a drain for a small bar sink. This pump was the answer! ... I would definitely purchase this pump again.”
“While some reviews recommend minor variations, I ran the plumbing and fittings following Hartell's instructions and have no problems once the flow was adjusted. I have an 8 foot rise, then 15 feet horizontally to reach the existing drain that I tied into. The pump is quiet, powerful, came with all necessary fittings. The installation was probably not something a novice should undertake but an experienced DIY person with some knowledge of plumbing should have no problems.2018 update - After 4 years of use, the switch seemed to be hanging up (as noted in another review). It would not start until the sink was about 1/3 full and continued running after it was empty. It seems this is related to something in our water which is gumming up the switch. After trying a number of things to get it to work correctly I unplugged the pump, filled it with chlorine bleach, and let it sit for an hour. I plugged it back in and ran water through it. It seemed better so I repeated the process and it now is working fine again.Further update, after 2 months the switch has failed again and the chlorine trick didn't resolve it. The switch is badly corroded (as noted in another post) I have cleaned it and will give it a try but I am not positive about the long term prospects. If I can't find a replacement switch I will be looking for another solution.Rating dropped from a 5 to a 3. Will go lower if I can't find a switch! Too bad as it worked so well for a long time!2020 Update. I was able to locate a replacement switch, but did not install it as the pump was still operating properly. We sold the house so I don’t know how long it lasted. In the end I was satisfied enough to install one of these in our new house a year ago. Upped the rating to a 4.”
“Added a laundry sink along with this pump to replace a convoluted drain system on my washing machine. The hardest part was figuring out the specific adapters and fittings I’d need to tie into my existing drain. But after researching on Lowe’s and Plumbing Supply’s sites, and a bit of time in the aisle, I got it figured out.”
“Better instructions needed when attaching to composite sinks. You need plent of thread length to get a good seal. Would be better if they had a metal ( female) adapter tailpiece which would reinforce the composite tail.Installed exactly per instructions- 1 inch PVC with unions , valve and their check valve:1. A little noisy, but tolerable.2. Pump moves a lot of water.3. Even when balanced using the valve, the pump was cycling every 20-30 seconds after shutting off faucet and what appears to be full evacuation ? Added a secong spring loaded check valve and the cycling time increased to about one minute, which is better but not what is supposed to happen. And , yes, both CVs are installed in the correct orientation.4. Noted the instructions show the included check valve on horizontal under the sink closest to pump outlet ( where it should be ) BUT stamped on it is " Install in vertical location only". Too late, as I glued it in per instruction sheet. I did install the second check valve on vertical.5. Interim solution was to wire in a wall switch for the pump receptacle. That way the pump is energized when not in use.6. Wrote to Plumbing Planet , with details about cycling issue , who referred me to Hartell. Hartell has yet to answer - not a good sign of a company standing by the product.”
