“The zoo itself is incredible to explore and the Fido's Vineyard site is beautiful. However, we rented it so we could bring our two dogs. Both dogs escaped in the middle of the night, this ruined our time as we spent the entire night freaking out looking for them. Our dogs are both over 80lbs and easily passed through a large opening. Also, the next day we were shocked at 10 strangers just walked right into our fenced enclosure. This was shocking as many of them didn't have masks and they kept opening the door risking our dogs escaping again. Our 2 dogs wanted to greet and jump all over them. It was very stressful trying to keep our dogs away from numerous strangers in our fenced in enclosure and felt like a real invasion of our privacy. We asked the owners if it's normal for so many strangers to walk directly through our site taking photographs and to our surprise they said it was normal! It should be advertised as such, because with Covid and our dogs I would have never rented it knowing the door could swing open at any minute (during the daytime) with a new stranger with a camera. That being said as long as you know these things going into it, it is one of the most unique beautiful places we have seen. If both our dogs didn't escape and there weren't so many surprise visitors/intruders, it would have been perfect!”
“This was my second time at the Abandoned Zoo. Both times were incredible, but Fido's Vineyard was above and beyond what I could have expected! My very anxious rescue pup LOVED the freedom to run around his own safe enclosed acre. The shelter of the barn was a big plus for the brief rain we had. It's amazing to see what they've done with the B&B in the old giraffe house (they had barely started construction the first time I went). I can't get enough of walking around the abandoned zoo (of which I have video of me as a toddler with the animals from the 80s!). We also explored the dirt bike trails, which had some nice views, but a little terrifying walking on the outskirts of a shooting range. The pup and I intend to visit as soon as the weather warms up!”
“This camp site is fantastic. The site is huge and completely fenced in for off-leash adventures. The covered barn provides an added convenience, especially for shade or during rain. The solar light in the tent and the barn were another great feature.
Being able to access The Long Neck Inn kitchen and half bath was an awesome perk! The grounds of The Old Game Farm were also really cool to explore and Ben was a wonderful host and camp keeper.
We also had friends join us and they were able to use the additional camping tent which was in great condition.
We are already planning another trip back. Two days just isn’t enough to explore the property. We also want to check out local hikes and waterfalls.
Just a head’s up, the site has grapes growing in it. Hence, “Fido’s Vineyard.” Dog owners should be aware that grapes are highly toxic to dogs if ingested. Thankfully my dog was not interested in eating the grapes but it is something dog owners need to be very careful about.
Also, there are a few outdoor gun ranges nearby and we could hear the sounds of shooting during the day (Sat/Sun). It was not a big issue and we played music on our speaker to drown it out.”
“Unique setting. Our dog loved having the freedom to roam the site. The tent was good quality and kept us completely dry during an overnight rain storm. We would definitely recommend this site to others.”
