“I recently had to replace original output tubes (Prima Luna KT 88) in my power amp. I had blown 4 fuses over the course of 18 months and it was suggested that I should replace the tubes. I originally wanted to replace them with a tube similiar to the original. It was suggested I consider Gold Lion KT 88 or KT 66 which I plan to in the future. I had always wanted to try the much revered EL 34 and felt this was as good a time as any. BTW. At present. I prefer the sound of the Mullard EL 34 over the Prima Luna KT 88 by far. Great sounding tube so far. I only have about 30 hrs on them. Very creamy, smooth midrange and warm, balanced tone. The detail was plenty enough for my taste. I also found the sound to be very natural and organic. I must admit though. 98% of the genre I listen to is classic jazz (Bop, Hard Bop, Modal, etc.). 99% via vinyl or R2R tape (fortunately, I have a nice collection). Another great buying experiece with Upscale. From products, sales staff and ship/rec. That's why I keep coming back for my hi fi needs. “All four tubes were matched within 1 mvolt when I installed them in my vintage Jolida integrated amp. Awsome! Had to adjust bias down on each by a couple volts. Initially sound was A bit sterile but after about 20 hours the sound is more spacious. Very happy so far ... will purchase additional tubes from Upscale!”
