I have a Manley Chinook phono preamp thats over a month old and comes stock with standard Electro-Harmonix 6922s. I won't lie, the thing sounds amazing compared to my previous phono stage by SimAudio. However, as tube rollers do, I started reading around looking for some good tubes to really step up my system's sound. I called Upscale and spoke with Kevin about what I was looking for (tone, 3D imaging) and he said I should look at the Telefunkens. Well, Kevin is batting 1.000 with me on some pretty big equipment purchases as well as small tube buys. So I went for it! Whoa. This is what "going down the rabbit hole" means in HiFi audio. My system was sounding so good with the stock EHs. I mean, for an inexpensive current-production tube, the EH 6922s are good, quiet tubes. But the Tele's, I gotta say, those things are a gift from 20th century engineers! Forget ICBMs or whatever cold war device they were originally meant for, the Telefunken's are meant to rock! At one point during the break-in period I put on Lou Reed's "Transformer" and turned my back to continue working at my computer. Throughout, the amazing depth and clarity of the bass would catch my attention and pull me out of my keyboard-tapping stupor. Then, during "Walk On The Wild Side" I stopped everything in disbelief because the stand-up bass sounded like a real, live stand-up bass! I've heard this song hundreds of times in my life and, unless you're really paying attention, you just hear a baseline. I'm telling you, the Telefunkens bring so much to the table, they will pull you in by uncovering sonics that were once hidden. Get them, you will not be sorry!

This is an excellent tube. I have a Sunfire Classic tube Control Center (hybrid pre amp by Bob Carver signature series). The pre-amp has 3 output tubes. I originally purchased 2 matching NOS tubes thinking I would insert into the left and right output channels and when I did it sounded really good but was still missing something. I then purchased the third tube and installed it and WOW what a difference. Sound stage is good, deep rich smooth base, the highs are crisp and clear. The tubes are very quite and silent, just a slight air sound at high volume when testing without any music playing...expectable level for me, I'm very critical of that condition, I guess it came from my earlier years with solid state preamps. All in all a very decent tube group. The only very slightly lacking characteristic I did notice is that the tube seems to be a little shallow, light, empty or weak in the mid range. The tube does not have confusing or muddied sound stage at all. Very clear, quiet, smooth, accurate quality sound. I'd buy again.

In the 6 years I've had my Bottlehead Seduction phono stage, I've rolled many great tubes. I thought I'd found the best in Amperex USN/CEP 7308's and had used those for a few years. After re-configuring my 2 channel system to hybrid ESL speakers, I felt there was a bit of "something" missing from their wide, detailed sound stage during vinyl play. There was - a dead quiet, deep black background. That's what these platinum grade Telefunken deliver. Thanks for a spot on evaluation and recommendation, Kevin.

I own older Audio Research gear that takes all 6922's. I am in the process of retubing every piece with these Telefunkens from Kevin. Its making a huge difference in listening enjoyment. Give them 10-15 hours break in, and things come nicely into focus. Bought 4, only 5 more to go. Smooth, wide and deep soundstage. Relax and sink into the music!

Never having purchased a NOS tube I was somewhat reluctant to make this purchase. Well after letting it break-in for a couple of days this tube delivered in spades. Am using it in a CJ Classic 2 SE preamp which only requires one 6922. I just ordered another two of these gems and will save them for future use. Outstanding!
