Very tedious and disappointing. He paints stunning portraits but he is no teacher. It’s more about him than about how to paint portraits.

Hi there, Thanks for your review. We value every BBC Maestro customer, and really value your feedback. All courses have detailed course notes to accompany them, which a lot of learners find really useful to get the most out of their course. There's also lots of great course exercises in there! I hope this helps, but feel free to contact our amazing customer service team at support@bbcmaestro.com if you would like more support! Best, Rebecca

It's always a risk to commit to a video when it's not clear what to expect. As an amateur I would have been expecting it to include techniques I would have been very disappointed. As it turned out I was happy with a narrative about the issues, dimensions and options which have made me think more deeply about the art of portraits. From which I learnt some lessons. Thank you.

What was your primary motivation for purchasing this course? Achieve career goals
I've already recommended BBC Maestro to friends and family, as a learning opportunity, but also the Jonathan Yeo videos have been a wonderful chance for me to see how artists work. I paint portraits in oils, a recent finalist in the SAA competition, and regularly follow Raw Umber Studios, drawing in pastel, charcoal, and want to expand my knowledge and maybe even sell some paintings in time. Jonathan is very interesting, as he hasn't been to art school, and neither have I. I wanted to know more, and I could watch it through several times. May even paint him from the videos.Thank you for the opportunity. A recent pastel drawing is added below ( not of me, by the way).

What was your primary motivation for purchasing this course? Learn a new skill, Achieve career goals
This has been a lovely way of learning from a professionals experience. Jonathan Yeo was engaging, knowledgable and also very honest. Which is fabulous for someone who only started to even paint pictures 4 months ago. Let alone tackle portraiture. Thank you for giving me the confidence to travel this road lesser known and to understand that I am not the only artist to question their ability.

I am really enjoying the way that Jonathan has structured the course and the very practical way that he explains things. I have felt liberated and encouraged to get down to painting and not putting it off!!

What was your primary motivation for purchasing this course? Learn a new skill, Celebrity-interest
Jonathan Yeo is prepared to reveal a lot about his approach to his art, demonstrating that there is a great deal more to portraiture than pure technical skill (which he clearly has in abundance). He makes it clear that there are social and psychological aspects that the painter needs to channel to achiev success. This is a rewarding course to follow, partly because it illuminates what motivates Yeo as an artist.
