“I've been cooking on a Green Egg for almost 30yrs. and have eyeballed various temp. control systems, though I'm very proficient using the vents. Meanwhile I bought a Yoder YS640 which uses Fireboard as their control system. I was impressed with it on the Yoder with its information and options. So I took the plunge and purchased a fireboard 2, the vent fan, and Spark thermometer. The items integrate onto the App with the Yoder and make everything a breeze, especially if your doing multiple cooks at once. Recently we bought my daughter and son-in-law a Kamado Joe as a house warming gift. Also got them a Spark with a couple probes ,because it has wifi and you can plug a probe into it to either monitor the smoker or food temperature.
Told them I would get familiar with the smoker using the vents, and then consider getting the Fireboard 2 , especially for overnight cooks.
Comes down to this, if you cook and want guaranteed ,consistent results, that are achieved with the least trouble and inconvenience. Then get the Fireboard products. But don't take my word, get online, (YouTube etc.) and do your research. Then make the purchase, follow the instructions, and enjoy effortless results. It really is a no brainer. You will be so happy with your purchase your wife will be suspicious of your happy grin as you sip your drink of choice while multi tasking, (or watching the game).”
“Super disappointed that this probe snapped after 6 months of use when I went to swing out the probe. Warranty was so disappointing I had to pay 60+ dollars Canadian to ship it to have it replace, not worth it if you are international.”
“Very “Instant” for an instant read thermometer. The sync control is nice although I wish if I turned it on via App that it would just connect, It seems I had to enable it on the device itself and turn it off from the device itself. Haven’t had it long enough for a full review esp where battery is concerned.”
“Maybe I just got a bad one. Would never share data with the app. Always dropping Bluetooth and WiFi signals. Froze and would not respond even when just using the attached probe. Ended up returning it. Reached out to customer service via email never heard back. Bummed it didn’t work as all my other fireboard products are top notch. Guess I’ll wait for version 2.”
“I love the integration of this thermometer. Last use, I had it display my Fireboard2 temps, including a pulse probe, on my refrigerator (magnets!) so that I could check on two briskets at once as well as the smoker temps.
When it was close to finishing, I used the built in probe to test other portions of the brisket to ensure it was really done before pulling them off the smoker. Awesome tool.”
