About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. “Overall for the price, the board is worth purchasing for yourself or a gift for someone else. The only issue that makes me hesitate to give a full five stars is the quality control. On my set, there was a screw missing and a few of the pieces were not crafted very well, in particular, one piece keeps falling over due to being poorly crafted.”

“We wanted a nice wooden chess set for our daughter and this was the second one we bought on Amazon, the first was very plastic so this was lovely to open and use. Maybe magnetic would be a nice addition in the future. But the set and packaging is great. Really like the Chess set.”

“This seemed like one of the best available so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately these boards dont scream hand crafted. When mine arrived, straight away I could see the board didnt align properly and once I set it down on the table, I could see it didnt sit properly either.The hinges in the middle stick through and dont allow the board to actually sit flat maybe I just got a oneoff faulty design, but this wasnt what I expected for the price I paid.Sadly have to return it and look at other options.”
