The board is a travel type, but of nice quality and made of real wood. The chess pieces are also of travel quality, I was hoping theyd have a tad more detail, but for the price one cannot complain. The pieces are also wood and have a nice feel and fit inside the case. One thing that may not last long is the elastic bands that hold the pieces inside the case, they are fine now but appear theyll probably not hold their elasticity for long.

Its a nice looking board, but the varnish is flaking off only after a few weeks and it scratches, dents and marks very easily. The pieces are very light and fall over too easily. Magnetic pieces would be better for this set. If you are a serious chess player, who will use the board regularly, this board isnt for you. Its not hard wearing and the pieces are too light and unstable.

I just wanted a small set to travel with on a short trip and found this to be excellent. Jaques is obviously a wellknown brand and I was attracted by the name and at such a favourable price. The board quality is excellent and unusually for a set of this size there is internal protection and individual restraints for the pieces whilst the board is folded and in transit. On a point of personal preference only I found the white pieces a little too white, and will probably stain them to obtain an offwhite or darkish colour, but other than that a great product from a traditional chess brand name, and at an excellent price. Highly recommended.

Nice wood. Pieces are nicely carved. No grid refrances none in picture so thats my fault on face. Marks and dents in surface when arrived. Did not sit flat on a table the board wobbled. No latch to keep box shut. Was pretty disapointed and imidiatly returned the product.

This was bought as a gift for my 14 year old sons birthday. So the comments are what he has told me. He rates it 4 stars as he says the pieces feel a bit small. The overall quality however, he says is excellent and he is very happy that he now owns a lovely chess set that he will no doubt spend many happy hours using trying to beat his grandad at a match!
