“Received my set in good time. The craftsmanship for 32 was a lot better than what I was expecting all the pieces and board look nice, the board was alined with a little barely noticeable warping.After reading through some of the reviews I had a little trepidation, especially seeing some of the images of pieces damaged. But, as far as the set I received goes, it was all in good order and of a very good quality. This was my first physical chess set, thinking about getting a more ornamental set as a Christmas gift. I can definitely see this set as being the one Id take away with me have for general use.”
“I ordered this with Prime delivery as a last minute gift for my daughter to take on holiday. It arrived next day and the packaging is excellent. The set is in a box with a lovely ribbon tied around it and then shrink wrapped. I decided to allow my daughter to take of the wrap and sadly thats where the excellence ended. This is a very cheaply made product. Rough edges, badly carved pieces, very light wood. The pictures suggest something far more substantial and higher quality. Even more disappointing is that despite being described as 2 games in 1, and one of the pictures showing draft pieces, this is just not true. There are no draft pieces included. With regards to being suitable for travel, it doesnt come with a bag or covering, the pieces are held in with elastic so you have to take them all out before opening the board, and it is so lightweight I doubt if it would stand up to being dropped or knocked about in any way. If this had of been 10 I would have been quote happy, but 33 is way overpriced. Having given it as a gift I cant now return it but I am not impressed at all and would if I could.”
“Its got a nice finish but two the halves dont quite align by about a millimetre and, due to protruding hinge, doesnt open completely flat. Am considering sending it back.”
“Damaged 2 major varnish defects not related to wood colouration. 2 inch scratch in the surface. It had a card inside suggesting it has been checked by Jane. Clearly she hadnt been very careful about checking. Real shame as other than the overlooked damage it is a really nice board. Very disappointed as I was excited about getting it.”
