I feel a bit of a fool for buying this through Amazon as it is made in the town I live in and few things are. Having seen various reviews that were critical of the quality I carefully unpacked the set before giving it to my great nephew to check that it wasnt scratched or badly made. It was pristine and really lovely and without any flaws. Im delighted to have purchased it and hope it will give him hours of pleasure.

Absolutely delighted with this set. The board is perfectly flush, and hinges close perfectly I see some reviews argue for a clasp, but it is unnecessary with a solid grip. Charming handcarved chess pieces with a lot going for them. The set was very carefully packed thanks, Becky! and will be loved for years to come.Thank you!

Ive been looking for a well made chess set for ages and this looked too good to be true for the money, however, its even better than the photos. Its beautifully packaged and the craftsmanship is spot on! Im not sure how easy it would be to take on your travels, its light but larger than some other travel games. I much prefer the larger board so suits me perfectly.

This item is about as good as Id expect for a wooden chess set of this size and price. As others have indicated, there are imperfections with the craftsmanship some pieces like the king and rooks arent crafted properly they look slightly slumped over like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Also, the pieces arent weighted, so you might knock them over now and again, compared to weighted pieces or magnetic pieces. When the board is opened up, if you look very closely, youll notice that the playing areas dont perfectly align. These are all minor imperfections, however you need to be really paying attention to notice them. If these small flaws dont bother you, its pretty much the best wooden set youll get at this price range.
