About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. “A great chess set, excellent craftsmanship and very well packaged. It was such a wonderful surprise to receive this and unwrap such a lovely game. As people who spend a lot of time looking at screens we decided it was about time we found other things to fill our spare time and have started learning how to play chess. The instructions included with the set were incredibly helpful and it made it all the more exciting to learn as we had such a great set. It is very portable and we even took it when we went glamping for the weekend. Highly recommended! A great gift for someone or a treat for yourself.”

“I was expecting a lot about this product based on the mentioned history an experience but disappointed after seeing thisIt does not appear to be a quality product, looks like its made with cheap material , not strong, very lightProduct received damaged little hole in the squaresPieces are very light and shaky on the board cant stand properlyOverall not worth this price wet quality”

“Bought this for my 10 year old boy as he has been enjoying playing draughts on his phone and asked for the actual board game. Saw this set online and thought great you get two for the price of one! Needless to say this is a very nice set presented well in the box and a very nice compact size not to big and not to small that it is annoyingly fiddly. Amazingly having explained the rules of chess to my boy he has fallen in love with the game and now we play chess on a daily basis as well as the odd game of draughts. His even managed to get his brother and sister to play! Excellent thing to have these days when we all spend so much time in the digital craze. This is a timeless classic and a great games at a very reasonable price.”

“I thought it was time to teach my 10 year old son to play chess on our staycation in Ireland, the item came beautifully packaged and is brilliant value for the beautiful board and pieces. My younger son and I have enjoyed playing draughts and my older son is loving quality time playing chess with his dad, far better than having there heads stuck in electronic devices.”
