About Jaques of London:

About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. Why not come along for the trip with us!

A travel chess set with pegged pieces is only useful if the pieces fit snugly into the holes on the squares. Unfortunately a very gentle bump is enough to knock the pieces for this set over as the pegs are simply too small. Cheap but badly designed or manufactured

Nice little chess set of wooden construction, ideal for travelling as stated. It comes nicely packaged and keenly priced, no complaints!

Ordered dozens of items / games in November, mainly for younger family Christmas gifts, including new grandsons 1st Christmas and new nephew. “Jaques” did nothing with my order for two weeks, then created a new order on the 13th December, still plenty of time - you would think! After countless emails, calls and chasing, we received nothing. We gave Jaques a deadline of Monday the 20th of December to deliver, as we were heading South for Christmas, they failed. The games arrived on Wednesday the 22nd December, almost 1 month after ordering!! Throughout this we have received countless marketing emails, as now on their system, promising faster, even faster deliveries, Christmas messages from the CEO of Jaques blowing the Jaques trumpet about special, family caring business, many generations etc etc. The previous generations may have offered, well must have to survive, the present generation has much to learn about customer service LESS MARKETING and some contactable customer service that accept ownership of problems and accountability for their actions. “Jaques” you ruined all our plans for special, traditional, hand made, educational fun gifts that we chose at great length, ordered in plenty of time, and have had abysmal customer care throughout , NOTHING delivered before the 20th when we left to Christmas in Windsor. Thanks! Do not believe the hype, talk is cheap, service is king. We will never know about the goods, the toys, so cannot comment. But it does not matter how good ANYTHING is, if you, the company, cannot deliver. They will be returned, unopened, and the family will never see, let alone enjoy, them now. What a shame “Jaques”, so many opportunities to sort out and deliver on your promises.
