Our Blue Splash was the first to lay in our assortment of 9 birds. She's beautiful and the mother hen of the flock. But she's not quiet! She is the most vocal of the bunch, but we love her. Great bird.

After receiving 5 chicks in April 2020 I was very sad to find that my 2 favorites were actually boys and had to be rehomed. Out of the 3 left, nobody really stood out as being super social but there was one who I had fed from a dropper as a baby due to lethargy and lack of appetite. She was my Splash Marans, Honey. After the boys left there was a restructuring of the pecking order and Honey ended up on top. She became a strong but kind leader. A few days without the boys and suddenly my girls were wanting to spend more time with me, following me around and begging for treats. Honey started behaving much like my dogs who, much to my delight, the chickens easily hang out with. Honey is now 22 weeks old and started laying a little less than a week ago. She has laid three different colored eggs so far but the last was the deep chocolate brown that we were expecting. I think the first two were her body trying to figure out the paint job correctly as they were pretty sloppy in appearance. No speckles on the last one but the color is lovely! So far she has laid three eggs in five days and I am expecting a fourth today. She just has the coolest personality and she is a big, beautiful bird! She was the biggest baby and is the biggest hen of our flock of six (so far). After our accidental roosters we ordered three more babies from my pet chicken and they are about 12 weeks old now. We have spent the past months working on integration and now they are all coexisting peacefully together, earlier than expected. I credit Honey for taking the lead on this with the other adults. I don’t have one single complaint about her! I highly recommend adding a Splash Marans to your flock!
