Baby Chicks: Blue Splash Marans Female Reviews

4.7 Rating 206 Reviews
I got two of these gals about 4 years ago. They are rather skittish but 1 of them has hatched out several chicks for me and is an excellent mother. I put eggs from other hens under her. Today she is incubating her second clutch this year. I need broody hens to raise olive eggers. My roos are Americaunas, so the eggs are a sandy green to a camouflage green. The color is very unusual and people are really impressed.

I’m surprised to read about these Duck not being friendly - We have a female duck who is my best friend - she greets us and all visitors with a happy waddle and quack - anyone can pick her up and carry her around - she’s darling - she was hand raised in the house for 4-5 weeks with cats & dogs all around her cage - as well as chickens - my first Duck - we just love her- she was 1 yr in the Spring

I received the ducks the first week of April. These birds have grown into the most beautiful creatures, but they act like I will beat them. They scream and run when I get close or take them their food. I've never encountered an animal that was afraid of me, so it is very disappointment for me.

Her loose splash feathering is so fluffy and pretty. She was a bit slower to develop in the hatch and now that she got introduced with the bigger group she tends to get picked on more than her baby siblings. She doesn't mind being held and is quite talkative but I wish she wasn't picked on and I find myself running to her rescue. Ah the nature of chickens! I'm just in love with her

Our Blue Splash Maran, Cherie, is the most beautiful bird in our backyard flock. She is a lovely white with gray feathers peppered all over her body. Sadly she is the most skittish bird in the flock and is not friendly to people, but she lays the biggest eggs of them all. Her eggs are a nice "milk chocolate" color - noticeably darker than the Orpington eggs, but not as dark as a Black Copper Marans egg. She gets along well with all the other hens.

I cannot say enough good things about this chicken. She’s one of the friendliest in our flock and a total lap bird. She’s also incredibly beautiful. I ordered 8 day old chicks in August, 2018 from MPC and my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. I am so pleased with all of them, but our Maran, Olive, is one of my favorites.

My first order ever of day old chicks came with 1 of these. Although they do get pasty butt regularly when young (i think it’s down to the way they swallow huge chunks of food) keep them clean and they grow up to be thee most beautiful sweetest of all your chickens. My little Snow has a crazy appetite, last chicken to still be around the food, largest of the group it’s almost like she’s on steroids lol. Very independent and has kind of a childish mentality compared to the other breeds, like a spoilt baby. Absolutely magnificent. Originally had 1 lonely cooper Maran and although she was never hand raised like my new batch, she has this same temperament. l would defo suggest adding this breed to your collection.

I have been ordering from MPC for the past five years and have to say these are the sweetest chicks ever! Right now the two chicks are nine weeks old and are the friendliest, gentle and loving chicks yet that I have owned. I have a mixed flock with many breeds, varying from heritage to the standard types and right now, I have 16 chickens and three goslings all from MPC. Again, I can not express on how friendly and beautiful these chicks are and looking forward to their chocolate colored eggs too!
