Baby Chicks: Blue Splash Marans Female Reviews

4.7 Rating 221 Reviews
We ordered 2 females, they are gorgeous and friendly. One laid her first egg yesterday and it is about as dark as my Orphington's first egg. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the second lays a darker egg.

After an 8 month wait, Daryl Hannah laid her first egg, and unfortunately it is the same light/medium brown as my golden buff, like a grocery store brown egg. I was pretty bummed- I was hoping for at least some dark speckles. But, she is a very friendly, fluffy, talkative chicken. If you don’t care about egg color, and want a sweet chicken, I’d recommend these.

“Ethel” is now 5 weeks old and so far I am very pleased with her. So far a he looks to be mostly white, but does have a few blue spots here and there and her feathered feat are just the cutest. This girl is the most calm and laid back of the 6 chicks I ordered back in September. Her eyes just look “kind” and she’s very calm. I’m excited to see what this girl looks like when she’s fully feathered out, and I have a feeling she will be one of our favorite ladies.

Burrito just started laying med/dark brown eggs with dark speckles, almost identical to my black copper marans hen. Her feet are invisible under her heavy leg feathering, and she has become the the most gorgeous bird in my mixed flock. She moves with sloth like speed, and yet is an agile hunter. She is neither people friendly nor skittish, just a go with the flow kinda girl. Everyone in my flock loves her, even my crabby old alpha Welsummer. A must have in any flock.

I got two of these gals about 4 years ago. They are rather skittish but 1 of them has hatched out several chicks for me and is an excellent mother. I put eggs from other hens under her. Today she is incubating her second clutch this year. I need broody hens to raise olive eggers. My roos are Americaunas, so the eggs are a sandy green to a camouflage green. The color is very unusual and people are really impressed.
