“Last year (October 2020) I purchased three Day-old Buff Orpington Chicks to add to my flock of 5 mixed breed birds from a local chicken keeper. This was my first time raising chicks, and I was very nervous about it! (My existing chickens had come to me as 8 week old pullets). The Buffs have been the sturdiest, friendliest, and best egg layers for us! They started laying right on schedule, and we even hatched a few of their eggs this year in April, into strong and healthy. chicks! I am so pleased with my "Buffy Girls" and two of them are the top of my pecking order, but always come running for treats and pets. This year (2021) I added two Lavenders, a BBS which is a beautiful penciled black, and some Isabels from hatching eggs. They are all such beautiful, steady and reliable birds, and all have thrived even in our hot summers, with a lot of shade and small wading pools to cool off in. Highly recommended for first time chicken keepers who want a bird that is multi purpose and friendly.”
“New chicken owner, I ordered three 6-week old buff orpingtons and one 6-week splash orpington from MyPet Chicken for early April delivery. A whole adventure that has been quite fun. Initially the buffs pecked at tail of splash but that was because I read that it is good to let them acclimatize in close quarters for a few days - that must be for the tiny chicks. Anyway, Splash is now bigger than the others and they are a tight click -they really stick together. They are laying about an egg a day now. They are healthy and such fun. They will squat to be picked up sometimes, and they come running when I head out to the yard. I free-range during day and lock them in the coop at night. These orpingtons are gentle, super curious, very cautious, adventuous and beautiful. Gorgeous birds who are mostly very quiet. They chortle and I can tell if they are bothered or happy or curious. Rare to have any loud noise from them. I love my orpingtons, their feet are like huge worms, which I did not expect, and each has a different nature: one is more adventurous (a leader), another is quiet, Splash has gray legs/feet! She is the last to check something out after the others are into the new adventure, like when I first fed them some blueberries and later some figs. Anyway, MyPetChickens is a great company, I love all their information and help. My orpingtons are excellent ladies! Thanks!”
“I ordered 2 and have been awesomely surprised with both. I am a 1st time chicken owner, so I went big and ordered 10 hens. The Buffs have stood out and stood up. They are the easiest to handle and the most friendly. One even plays tag with my daughter. They are the only ones that are super easy to handle. They are beautiful and very plump and regular egg layers. Surprisingly playful and all around awesome.”
“Im a first time wannabe farmer and I ordered 2 for my flock of 10 for my first order. They are finally laying and looking beautiful. They are very friendly. It seems like they love my daughter as they take turns chasing each other and walk up to me to be petted almost every day. AWESOME HENS!!!!”
“My Dolley is 8-1/2 years old and one of my original hens I got from My Pet Chicken (3 out of the 4 I got from MPC are still alive and thriving). I can‚Äôt stress how much I love this girl. She‚Äôs so sweet, follows me around, sits on my lap, lets me pet her and jumps up onto a bucket when she wants to let me know she wants me to pick her up and carry her around. She makes the sweetest tweety bird sound, still lays and has never been broody. I will always have this breed in my flock. I can‚Äôt believe I live a chicken so much.”
“8.5 years ago I received Emmy from this hatchery and she is still blessing my family. She is the sweetest chicken I could ever wish for. She will sit in my lap all day and is very talkative and curious. She follows me everywhere and has to supervise every project my husband does in the garage. She has only been broody once in her life, when she turned 8 and finally decided to settle down but I unfortunately didn't have any fertile eggs at that time. She is still laying a few days a week in the warm months.. Emmy is very opinionated and will not hesitate to vocalize when something isn't to her liking but she is never mean. This chicken has earned all 5 stars”
“Our Ginger is always first to greet us, she likes to sit near us, pick at our hair and clothing, and generally just be around us. Very friendly. Not a lap chicken, but definitely not skittish. She's currently at the top of the hierarchy though fairly docile and not at all bullying. Would definitely get an Orpington again. She's only 3.5 months old, can't wait til she's old enough to lay.”
