I got my Olive Egger, named Ivy, 9 years ago as a chick from MPC. She is a beloved member of our family! Ivy is a BIG hen who weighs 8.5lbs., she was close to 9lbs. in her prime years. Solid black feathers with the gorgeous beetle-green iridescent shine, no feathers on her legs and no feather head crest. Just beautiful! She lays XL dark green colored eggs. In her prime she laid about 3-4 eggs per week. Even at 9 years old though she still has spurts of egg-laying for a few weeks on and off in spring and summer. Ivy goes broody once a year in late May. We were finally ready for more chicks 2 years ago so Ivy got her first chance to be a mamma hen. She successfully hatched the fertile eggs we purchased and she was an excellent mother! A pro from the start. Ivy has always been top of the pecking order but you’d almost never know it because she’s so gentle and calm about being in charge. Personality-wise, she doesn’t seek out much affection from people unless there are treats involved (oh but if we leave the back door open she invites herself in to poke around the kitchen haha) but she’s calm enough to handle for health-checks, etc., and just enjoys hanging around while we’re in the yard. I couldn’t have asked for a better hen with my first flock of chickens and hope we still have have a few more years left with her. At 9 years old Ivy isn’t slowing down! She has outlived her heritage breed “sisters” by a couple years. (Wish I could post photos with this review, let me know if there’s a way to do that)

Arrived very healthy and lively. This is my second order with MPC. The first batch I ended up with a Easter Egger roo instead of a hen chick. MPC customer service is outstanding. Too soon to tell if they got the sex correct on this new batch but they are thriving and doing great!

Thank you, Brian, for taking the time to review the Olive Egger chick and share your adorable photos!! They are absolute cuties! We hope your brood continues to bring you joy! While we are sorry that sexing error happened on your previous order, our vent experts do their absolute best in checking the 15 teeny tiny shapes to determine if they are male or female before we ship them to our customers. So far, we have a 95% sexing accuracy rate but if the unfortunate mistake does happen, we have our guarantee to ensure you are properly refunded for the error. We are thankful that you found My Pet Chicken and will always do our best to make your experience the best it can be!
