Baby Chicks: Bountiful Blue Egg Layer Female Reviews

4.7 Rating 169 Reviews
I have a 3 year old Super Blue from MPC. When she first started developing a straight comb I was suspicious, then to my disappointment she laid white eggs. The size is almost always medium, with the occasional large in the last few months as she gets older. The reason I still give 4 stars is that she is a fantastic layer, 6-7 eggs per week and lays well through winter, and even when molting. The only thing that stops her is going broody, which she did several times the first 2 years but hasn’t this year. Overall I would buy again, even with the broodiness and white eggs.

I purchased 3 of these chicks early March of this year (2020). They are presidio start laying at 22-24 weeks. 1 started laying at 18 weeks and a second at 19 weeks. I'm so pleased!

I bought my SBEL in Feb 2016. YES, 4 yrs ago...while they began laying on time I was disappointed that they eggs were very light blue, tinted really. After paying so much this was not a good first impression. As it turned out, they were great layers. Flighty. Good foragers. Bossy. Very dependable layers of large to jumbo eggs. Several go broody each year. They mother well, are Ninja moms! They like to "wean" the chicks from mom early...say 8 weeks and they are done with motherhood. LOL. Notice right up front I said I bought in 2016. This month they have been laying 4 years. Still huge eggs, most every day, almost white shells now. And 3 went broody this year, again. I have 6 plus several offspring from hatching that are mixed...some lovely mint green eggs. Would buy again if only for the good eggs and their healthy longevity. They are expensive though for initial buy.

We love our two Super Blue Egg Layer girls. They are very good consistent layers. The prettiest medium and light blue eggs I’ve ever seen. Nice clean yolks as well. I’m always pleased with my orders from My Pet Chicken.

I know with any breed it's hit or miss with temperament. Our Super Blue is about 3 months old and she is so friendly! I've raised chickens for a long time and have never had one in my house unless sick/needing treatment. This sweet girl follows me every where, even though she was raised by a broody hen with 5 other chicks outside. She loves people, is very curious and likes to come in the house and "visit". Seriously the most friendly chicken I've ever owned. We just adore her!

She's sweet. She's smart. She's outgoing. And she lays the biggest blue eggs every single day. I should have gotten 10 of her. I haven't had any trouble with being broody either.

Like I wrote before, I have two Super Blues, but one is the 1 in 16 that has a single comb and lays white eggs, the other is a true SBEL. I still love her, she is super cute, lats a large blue egg every single day unless she is broody. And she is broody a lot! At exactly one year old she had been broody three times already. She is very persistent and it’s a two week battle to get her to snap out of it each time. If I ever decide to raise my own chicks, I know who the mama hen of choice will be (even though she is the smallest of all my hens). But in the meantime she is driving me batty! I will choose a different blue egg layer next time.

I purchased 5 day old chickens 3 years ago, each a different breed. Lula quickly rose to the top of the chicken ladder and has been bossing the others around since. She lays a greenish egg most days. Lula goes broody 1-2x each year & is impossible to break. I end up throwing an egg under her or getting a baby for her. She's a fantastic mother and since she's the boss, I don't have to segregate her from the flock when she has babies. She loves her treats & to free range. She doesn't mind being held, isn't afraid of my dog or kids, and has been known to peck on the door to demand treats if she hears us! I wouldn't want a flock of them (because of the broodiness), but she's the BEST!
