Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I had one student who couldn't speak English and he wasn't making friends because he was so shy and unsure of being in a NZ school. When we were making the lego, he had success with it and started to work with another boy who also loved Lego. It was so lovely to see this friendship start while we were doing this kit. The Lego was such a hit with a group of really low boys (lacking fine motor skills) that I brought more lego in from home and have had lego in my class for learning through play and before school since then.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? definitely setting up the lego - following instructions, then drawing and inventing was awesome. My kids loved the Te Reo component - it was so good that it was integrated - and so easy to teach!
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? That things can be made in lego following instructions or from your imagination - the play and talk that was happening while they were creating farm environments was awesome. Oral langauge, counting, making enclosures....

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? They love animals, and many could relate to farming. Some had visited a farm or seen farm animals before. It was great for clapping syllables for animal names, sounding out animal names and writing stories about our farming enclosures.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them The children built farms and came up with questions about their farm design to ask our real farmer, e.g. how far from the farm house is your chicken coop? The tamariki wondered about how many animals could be in one paddock and started to investigate this by asking our farmer and doing other research, e.g. will they run out of grass if there are too many animals in one paddock?
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The kids loved the little items like fruits, veges and animals. The farmers were very popular too!
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? The talk about where our food comes from and planning a farm.

My Year 2 class used this resource as part of a 'Where does our food come from?" inquiry topic. We also participate in a programme called Farmer Time where we have Zoom calls with a real farmer, so the kit was an amazing extension to this. The tamariki role played the role of a farmer, invesigated the needs of animals and set up some amazing farms using the bricks.
