There was a lot of excitement in Rangiawhea class at Pukeoware School when we finally opened the school kit. We spent an afternoon following instructions on how to build each kit. This was a wonderful collaborative activity. We were learning about different types of farms and so the kit linked to our Inquiry topic. The bricks are well made and the children found the farm animals and people especially appealing. They were able to set up a working farm.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them "I like sharing the animal and making farms with my friends. " "i liked it when the big boys came to help us make the tractor and trailer, they are fun to play with"
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? the lego pieces were the biggest hit as they are open ended, accessible to all and so much fun! Te play scene mats are fun for animals and cars and provide a base for creative play and great oral language discussions, and the coloured die can just be used for so many games , the coloured die.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? I think sharing would be the biggest one and then lots of oral language discussions about farms, farming and animals, and about the land around us. They had to negotiate and share resources and that can be a challenge when you are 5.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? Mine learners are very new to school and some are still visiting from Kindergarten and so are not reading and writing yet. But this kit certainly supported their oral language and their ability to share and discuss

The countdown Lego is a huge hit in my room. They love the animals and the mats and they build amazing creations with them. The oral language that can be heard while they are negotiating how many cows, pigs and goats people are going to own is hilarious. They sort items, group them, line them up - all of which are beginning maths skills. They also loved making up the vehicles. Thank you

The Bricks Farm was used in the classroom to support a unit around Financial Literacy and also looking at the production process our resources go through. We used the online Grass to Glass resources to support the learning and the Bricks Farm set proved to be very motivational with the young students.

These were great to have in the classroom. My Year One class needed some mums/dads to help them put the kits together, but then they enjoyed playing with all the pieces and placing them around the farm. Lots of discussion was had between the children too.
