Which kit components were the most impactful and why? bricks to build with and connect home to school.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Learners were able to have fun using building equipment to create from a plan and then develop their own creations. Connecting building equipment directly to farming families in our community.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them "I have made my house, it has pigs and chickens" The child invited others to see what his house was like, explaining the different animals he had. Another child loved creating the farm where they go to visit grandparents. The class was able to co-construct the farm closest to school that we had walked too.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The bricks gave the children the chance to create and recreate over time so many different features - the ability to work together, being a new class of 5 year olds was amazing.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Some children had not experienced lego before, this ingited their love of building

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? After building we wrote stories, the bricks allowed them to refer back to for description, and include different features such as position. Students wrote labels for their own constructions. Lots of oral language!

“The bricks provided hours of learning. This was play based connected to our inquiry on Turangawaewae, our place. The children connected the farm bricks to their homes and community and our school community.”

“A beautiful donation to our tamariki and their play based learning. They loved using this to explore farming and, as an extension, how fruit/vegetables grow. Once our children struggled to put some of the vehicles back together, seniors came in as a tuakana teina and gave awhi and support.”

“What a fantastic kit! My class were so excited when they found out we received the Bricks farm kit and we had so much fun using the kit throughout Term 2. Lots of cross-curricular activities with oral language, Maths, writing, Social Sciences, drama. It was great to see the team work too with students working together to build their bricks. We just loved how flexible all the teaching materials were and the games can continued to be used throughout the year. Thank you School Kit and Countdown for a brilliant kit.”

“My class loved exploring, making, playing and learning from this kit. It was a great context to encourage discussion as well as learning Te Reo Māori vocabulary and sentence structure. Because quite a few of my students had some bricks at home, they became the 'experts' and helped their peers to follow instructions and build the sets.”

Most of the students in our school come off farms or visit friends' farms in the weekends so they all know a lot about farming. Therefore this slotted into our daily learning seamlessly.
