Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Collaboration and working together to create the farm. Following the assembly instructions was great learning for some.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The bricks because of the interactivity and the game because it brought out so much language.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Apart from the pieces themselves I think we had the most fun with the colour coded cards using them in different ways

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Cooperation and sharing. With a full but limited resource that was very popular, they HAD to share an had to be patient

“Of course the children loved having the whole set of the bricks farm but they also enjoyed the other parts of the kit such as learning some te reo words for the foods. The buildings and motors were a little hard for NE kids to build but the teacher was happy to do that job! And she did let the children put stickers on the produce and farmers! Lots of talking, role playing, scenarios and fun.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The Lego was a great tool for building connections with each other, their farms, and social relationships as they interacted with each other.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? It is part of our class equipment and used in play every day

“The whole resource was fabulous. We have a high percentage of families involved in farming, horticulture and other parts of the farming industry. Students were able to ask parents questions and bring back answers for the other children. Thank you.”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Discussion between teams in the planning of where they would place different items. Chn had to think how it could benefit the farmer and make his job easier. The chn then drew and labelled their own farm design using the areas and components in the kit. W

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The whole kit, the chn enjoyed building the vehicles and realised how important it is to read and follow the instructions! We then discussed what the farmer would use each machine for - this also initiated a lot of discussion.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? The chn can get the kit out each day and set it up and place things where they choose. They can play with it and work together with others, discussing and agreeing where things go.

We drew our farmyard and labelled the picture. We wrote about all the different jobs the farmer would have to do, how to care for the animals etc

“We had an amazing day planning and building our Bricks Farm. The students had to read the instructions carefully and work together as a team. They had to follow the instructions step by step, this meant lots of oral language between team members. Once the items were built we had fun planning where everything would go. We discussed where to put the beehive and this led to a discussion on pollination and having the beehive in the orchard by trees and blossom! The children all had a fabulous day with lots of learning.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The bricks! The kids found these super engaging and loved playing with these and discussing the different parts of the farm.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Knowing more about where our food comes from and the role farms play in our community.

“The assembly of the components supported tuakana/teina learning, teaching and how to work as a team. It provided opportunities for different tamariki to take on leadership roles. As a class, we learnt about organic and inorganic food and it supported our Enviro Kaupapa. At the same time Cyclone Gabriell swept through the country and the tamariki reflected this in our farm and their play with the animals and people on the roof and destruction sweeping through our Brick Farm.”
