“It was like a lollie scramble! All the students were excited to open the packs. Following the simple instructions. And add to the ever growing farm. We worked as a team to make the vehicles. We listened to ideas and took turns! Fantastic.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The game cards were great however the kids really enjoyed building the farm and vehicles.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? A greater understanding of the role agriculture plays in the livelihood of all New Zealanders

“What a fantastic kit this was, especially for my town children who have limited experience with farm life and where food comes from. The class had a great time creating their own farm vehicles and playing the games together. It would be great for this kit to be offered again as many of the other classes at school were very keen to become a part of the brick farm kit community. So worth while and well recieved.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Building the various bricks creations. Students had to work together to communicate and follow instructions carefully for the best outcome. This was a struggle at first because everyone wanted to do it but they have learned to take turns and accept others

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Great friendships and skills they can apply across all learning areas - GROWTH MINDSET!

“We used this kit for some akōnga who needed some time to learn social competencies which allowed them to build helpful friendships over this term. It has been a great tool to help these students have something positive to share with their whanau each day. Honestly cannot thank you enough for being so generous and making a difference in so many kids' lives at school. Such awesome kits that can be used in so many different ways.”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Building their own farms, building a shop, imaginative play around food, not just with the lego, but in the whānau area which became a shop.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The people and small food items appealed most to the children, although the roads were also popular.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Encouragment of imaginative play and making things to their own designs. Also, the transfer of play ideas from manipulative (with the lego) to other areas in our programme.

“We received our bricks in Term One but did not put them out into our Learning through Play area until this term (Term 2). The children fell in love - initially they built as suggested and then began building their own farms as they wanted. Many discussions around food production, selling, cooking have resulted from this play. I think the advantage”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them The boys in particular would commonly state "oooh I know this because I do it on the farm!". The girls who wern't particulary into farming topics discussed how they liked having so much choice in their learning.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Te reo aspect, differentiated levels were great.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Continuous building and creating strategies that can now use in their future learning and thinking outside the box skills.

“The bricks farm was a fantastic series of learning in our classroom, all children very extremely engaged and found individual approaches that worked best for them. We loved the engaging tasks set for us and the te reo component was fabulous for all of our ages. I would recommend this activity to any classroom and believe that it is a beneficial, interesting, and hands-on program for all students.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The put together vehicles and things were a great challenge and brought in parents and other staff to support tamariki which was great.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Working together was great!

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them "I didn't know I would be good at inventing things." "I liked when I got the bricks. It made me want to learn."

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The 'Use It' and 'Spell It' were great because my students were a lot more interested in completing these tasks because of the context so they were able to get more practice in writing sentences and spelling words.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? I think my students realised that learning can always be fun and rewarding.
