The tamariki had a blast using this kit. We did a feely box to try and figure out what they could be at the beginning to hook them in. Then as the term progressed and they got more items for their farms their imaginations ran wild. This kit fit in perfectly with our inquiry about farming.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The physical bricks kit and recommended readers list allowed our ākonga to draw comparisons between the two area's of learning. Meaningful and rich language opportunities arose as they shared their thoughts about what may be or what could happen next.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Our ākonga ask to engage with the kit daily and has empowered and build the confidence of some of our emergent learners who prior to the kit would not share their ideas in group learning. One of our parents saw the kit and brought his Fonterra milk tanker

Our ākonga LOVED engaging with the Bricks Farm kit from School kit. It allowed ākonga to draw on their prior knowledge and apply this to the resources in front of them, empowering them to take ownership of their learning and share their ideas with others.

The bricks farm kit this year was awesome! Not only did they give us ALL of the pieces, but the incorporation of te reo Māori & the resources that were available to go along with it was also outstanding. By the end of the time we were using them, my class (5 years old) knew so much more te reo vocab of animals and vegetables etc. It was overall a fabulous kit!

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? Our school is a rural school, so they students were able to make personal links. So we wrote about what we see on the farm and also were able to compare the Bricks to what we see. We read books too linking to farming.

My Year 1 class were so excited to open the large mystery box. They loved exploring and making all the different farm bricks. Thank you. We have been learning about how things move this term, so the farm machines ended up as part of some of our STEAM investigations. Watching them roll and moved down inclined planes and slopes. Our Farm Bricks table has been a huge hit. Thank you again.

What a fabulously engaging kit. My class loved each of the activities - they always enjoy an opportunity to learn new words in Te Reo. We had lots of laughs making sentences (eg The milk is on the chicken) - we put all the key word cards into the bag and pulled them out like a lucky dip to make a sentence and then made a model of it with our lego - so fun! My class also loved the Invent it activity and we have used this multiple times in multiple ways - it was fabulous to watch them go from saying 'I can't invent that' to 'I can't wait to invent that!' This kit had lots of flexibility and ways to integrate into different curriculum areas. A super resource!

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? We linked this to our inquiry where we were reading about farming practices Maori had compared to farming today. My class loved this kit and were engaged the whole way through! In term 1 we worked on using kotahitanga and this was perfect for us to practice this! They persevered with reading the instructions and didn't grumble when they realized they had to start over as they had missed some pieces! We are doing this again this term as we had so much engagement and when I mentioned this was an option, it was received with "She's bringing back the farm, yeeeesss!!!!"

Very motivating for the students but I think they were distracted by the whole Countdown Bricks thing rather than the learning from the kit! It took a while for it to be fully introduced to help them understand that it's purpose was more than just to play with...
