How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? As we are a farming community, the students bought their proir knowledge to the work we were doing as well. So the farm just bought all of that into the classroom and ignited the students imagination and interests.

Our class found this kit very motivating and naturally led to cooperative play, oral language work and design work. We had the older students waiting to help us build the brick kits and it will be an ongoing experience, as it is permanently set up in our class.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? Related well to our theme of "Our People Our Place." Books were borrowed from our local library which the students loved to hear read to them. They also chose to read and look through them during our Literacy options.

What an awesome kit! The tamariki loved it from the moment it arrived in our room. They set about building the models; great for cooperative group activities with lots of negotiating and sharing knowledge of how to put the kits together. They set up the farm on our Lego table and during our Play Make and Create sessions they play and rearrange the farm. The trailers are (piled high) filled with crates of produce and driven around the table to where they have built a market. As our theme for the year is "Our People, Our Place" this kit works well to support this theme as our rural community is made up of both sheep and dairy farms, a few large gardens where the owners grow to sell the produce, and the rest is made up of houses and gardens. We often have older students work in class with the tamariki (Tuakana Teina) so these kits have been a bonus here. The older tamariki have worked well with the younger tamariki coaching them when building the more complicated models. Again an excellent kit. thank you so much for this opportunity.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? As I mentioned above, we were reading The Wild Robot Returns and in the story Roz the robot lives and works on a farm. This was such a perfect link as the children would incorporate Roz and the family from the book into their play with the bricks.

The children in our class have loved creating and playing with the Bricks Farm 23 kit. Creating the vehicles was fantastic for following instructions and working as a team. The pretend play has been awesome and it is still one of the favourite activities in our class. It also tied in perfectly with our chapter chat book, The Wild Robot Returns, as Roz the robot lives and works on a farm.

The farm kit just keeps on giving in our classroom - we use it for a free play resource each week and the students just love it. It really suits kids who love imaginative play. I just love sitting with them and listening to them co-operate and share ideas. I've been intrigued by the interesting ways they use some of the support resources - from trading/bartering type play with the tokens and spontaneous use of te reo. Some kids took it upon themselves to re-create farm vehicles and other kids re-constructed them the next week using the instructions. There has been a little bit of social problem solving neccessary as a result and some work towards creating fair rules for all after the 'breaking' debacles. All great learning that I never anticipated!
